WELCOME to 7th Grade!!! Make sure you find your CORRECT seat, grab a warm-up from the ORANGE tray by the door, and BEGIN working immediately!

“The most active role in education is not the teacher's but the student's.” -- Leonard Nash

Student Expectations Students should follow all school rules and classroom rules. Students should respect the classroom, the school, other students, the teachers, and themselves. Students should TRY their BEST on every assignment.

Classroom Rules I WILL… come to class on time with all materials ready. keep my hands, feet, and all other items to myself. respect others and their property. not have gum, food, or drinks in the classroom. know the bell does not dismiss me, and I will remain in my seat until the teacher dismisses me.

Most importantly… BE PROMPT – this means to be in your assigned seat and working on the warm-up, by the time the bell rings. BE PREPARED – this means to bring all materials needed for class as well as getting your folder, while acting civilized. BE POLITE – this means to respect yourself and others. Raise your hand and wait for permission to speak.

Why do we have to follow them? Classroom Procedures Why do we have to follow them?

Why do we have classroom procedures or rules? We have classroom procedures for entering class, during class, leaving class, folders, homework, group work, extra credit, restroom because… rules help us to stay consistent and out of trouble!

Classroom Procedure: Entering the classroom Come to class on time! If you are tardy- there will be consequences. Walk into the classroom without touching anyone or running (remember what grade you are in). Pick up your composition book ONLY and the warm-up. Copy down the agenda, and then begin the warm-up immediately!

Make sure your pencil is sharpened before the bell rings!!! Sit in assigned seat. Quietly begin warm-up. (The warm-up is NEVER group work!) When completed with warm-up find an appropriate activity to do until I say to stop working!

Classroom Procedure: During the class period Follow classroom rules. LISTEN TO ALL DIRECTIONS! Work hard on daily assignments. Ask questions to teacher– but make sure you have read through the assignment FIRST– don’t assume you don’t know. Do NOT talk unless you have permission.

What do I do when I properly finish my work? Extra Credit Read a book Homework from other classes SLEEPING is NOT an OPTION!!! (See front board) Remember — this is school, so you ALWAYS need to be WORKING!

Classroom Procedure: Leaving the classroom Do not pack up until I tell you to! Composition books will be passed up and over and placed into the appropriate container. Make sure ALL materials are returned. Most importantly– the bell DOES NOT dismiss you – the TEACHER DISMISSES YOU!

Classroom Dismissal You will not be released until: The desks are neatly in rows (or groups) All compositions books are returned Materials have been neatly returned Everyone is seated and quiet!

Classroom Procedure: Composition Books Do NOT write on the inside cover or the back cover unless instructed to do so. Spirals will be graded every 6 weeks. Make sure you keep EVERYTHING that you are asked to keep in your spiral–you will receive a grade for it every six weeks!

Incomplete work will go in the back envelope! Returned papers will be glued onto the appropriate page. Always leave spiral in the classroom unless you are told to take it home. If you do not bring back your spiral or lose your comp. book you will be responsible for providing a new comp. book and ALL the work in it.

Classroom Procedure: Turning in Work Warm-ups are passed up and over weekly! The person in the first seat of the last row, collects all papers and NEATLY places them into the correct homework tray! Individual assignments should be placed neatly into the correct homework tray when completed!

Late work will lose 25 points each day it is late for the first 3 days! Work that is more than 3 days late must be made up in tutorials in order to receive credit!!! I do not assign a lot of homework, so I expect there to be no missing assignments!

Classroom Procedure: Group Work/Activities Sit in teacher assigned group (it will be posted on the front board) – be mature, you are a 7th grader! Get comp. book/warm-up and begin warm-up like normal! (Remember: warm-ups are individual work!) Wait QUIETLY for activity directions. Do NOT get out of your seat unless the teacher has given you permission.

Follow all rules/directions that are stated for the activity. Work cooperatively with your group members. (This is not social hour, you should talk to your group only!) Follow all rules/directions that are stated for the activity. After the activity is complete, collect all materials and place them back into the container that you received them from. Remember the materials are mine and NOT yours to take!

Classroom Procedure: Restroom There are NO restroom passes – none per month – none at all!! Take care of your business during the passing periods!!! If there is an emergency (which I can tell) I will make a note of it. If there are continuous “emergencies” we will need to go to the next level and find out why emergencies are happening too often.

What do I do when a visitor comes into the room? Continue working like you were before the visitor came in. Do NOT wave or talk to the visitor unless the visitor talks to you first. If the visitor needs you, they will get you!

Consequences Why do we have them?

Why do we have them? We have to be RESPONSIBLE for our own actions and learn from mistakes we make.

Tiger Tracks 1. Verbal Warning 2.Student/Teacher Conference   1. Verbal Warning 2.Student/Teacher Conference 3. Phone Call Home 4. Detention 5. Referral

Why might I receive a tiger track? JOBS SPIRALS DESKS BOOKS SUPPLIES TRASH/RECYCLE TICKET OUT POINTS LIGHTS: FRONT AND BACK

You are in 7th grade!!! This is your chance to show me how much you have matured since 6th grade! I want to have FUN, while we learn. However, this is not possible if you will not cooperate! The best way for this class to function is for you to LISTEN, while I TALK, FOLLOW directions, and ASK QUESTIONS as needed. I ask that you do not disrespect yourself, me, or your classmates!
