1 Welcome to Reading Workshop 2016-2017
Welcome Back! Welcome to Reading Workshop

2 Class expectation

3 Class Information 1 Reading Composition book 1 folder
1 Book of Choice to Read Each student needs to bring 1 composition notebook and a folder by the end of the first week of school. You will use notebooks to respond to reading and to take notes.

4 Make-up work: When you return from an absence, you need to check with the teacher to pick up any missing assignments and come in for tutoring before or after school to complete assignments. It is the responsibility of the student to obtain and turn in all missing work.

5 Expectations Be ready to learn. This means bringing all necessary materials to class everyday. Be ready to begin the daily routine as soon as you enter the classroom. NO horseplay at any time. Be Ready, Responsible, and Respectful of yourself, your classmates and your teacher You are tardy if you are not in the class by the time the tardy bell rings. I do put tardies in. All Electronic devices are turned off and put away before you walk into the classroom Never be afraid to ask questions or for help

6 Books This year you will be asked to keep a book of your choice in class at ALL times. This will be used in instruction daily and cannot be forgotten. If you don’t have a book for the day’s instruction, your grade will be affected.

7 Don’t Be Tardy! self-selected books.
Be Prompt: You must be in your seat and ready to start class when I shut my door. When you walk into this class you should sit in your seat and begin CUPS vocabulary from our self-selected books.

8 You should always write in complete sentences if you are turning an assignment in for a grade.

9 Do not get up or I will hold you back

10 Unless I have dismissed you...
Stay in your seats.

11 Work Hard-Don’t be hardly working
Be Productive: In this class, you need to work on the task that is assigned,be responsible for your own work, allow others to work undisturbed, listen and follow instructions the first time they are given, and remain in your seat until I dismiss you. If you are off task or being disruptive, I will begin going through the discipline steps starting with a teacher-student conference. If you begin packing up your items before class is dismissed, you are wasting time and I will keep the entire class in order for you to make up the time you wasted.

12 Mostly for daily assignments.
Don’t ask for extra credit when your missing work.

13 Assignments you turn in
Classwork: All work must be neat and legible; if I can’t read it, then I can’t grade it. All work will have your name, date, and period number printed on the top right hand corner.

14 You need something to write with at all times!

15 RESPECT Be Polite: You will treat everyone in this class with respect. This means your classmates, visitors (substitutes, parents, etc…), yourself, and me. There will be no gum chewing, eating, drinking, hair care, applying make-up, nail polish, perfume, etc… If you bring these items into my class, I will pick them up and discard them. Leave personal electronic devices that will distract learning off. Violators will be sent to the administrators. Profanity, vulgarity, rudeness, disrespect, and disruptive behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Appropriate actions will be taken if you choose to participate in any of these actions. All trash will be picked up off the floor when you leave this room and lastly, you will raise your hand before speaking and wait to be called on.

16 Let’s Respect each other
I have information that I need to share with you. I want you to be successful in this class. There will be times when I need you to talk to a partner, a group, the whole class, and me. There's a time to be funny and a time to be serious. Let’s help each other to respect each other's ideas and time.

17 Control Yourself Discipline Procedures: Teacher redirection (verbal warning, seat change, etc…) Teacher redirection plus a conference with the student (this may be during or after class and/or before or after school) 3. Teacher redirection/Teacher held detention hall, plus a phone call home to the parent 4. Referral to administrator

18 Don’t be scared! Communicate
Please talk to me. If you do not understand something let me know. If not in class please come in for tutoring or just come see me before or after school. I love to read and I want you to love to read too.

19 Talk to me Conference and Tutoring:
It will be my pleasure to help you learn and recognize your worth as a student and accomplish as much as possible this year. Please do not hesitate to ask for help, but please do so in advance. My conference time is 1st period. If you do not understand something or think you are falling behind, please see me for help.

20 Cell Phones need to be turned off & Put away.
If your phone goes off during class it will be a warning the first time. Second time I will take your phone to the office for your parents to pick up. If you have earbuds in I will assume you are listening to your music on your phone or other electronic device and I will take it to the office as well. We read books, articles, poems, and plays in this class not texts.

21 I leave you with this. New Year!
You can always start over! Give it your best academically, mentally, personally, & athletically. Welcome to a new year with new possibilities.

22 I love football
