Service Description Service name: Printing (Net-Print) Product(s): Custom application with many Cornell-specific integrations. Brief text description: A central service which allows departments to monitor and recover the costs of printing while reducing paper waste. Future service growth: January 2017 campus-wide deployment of PaperCut MF software to enhance the current Net-Print offering. Available to: Faculty, Staff, Instructional Professionals, Students, Alumni. Fee? Yes, cost-recovered. Adjustable tariff (currently 18% of revenue) for billing service. Service tier: One.

Value Proposition Value proposition Customer impact Key benefits Enterprise application with flexible implementation model. Shared infrastructure reduces unit costs compared to each unit funding their own solution. Departments choose from a range of printer models, support providers, and establish their own prices. Customer impact  Each user pays only for their printing. Consistent experience across several Cornell campuses. Key benefits Departments can recover printing costs, save paper, and provide printing allocations to students, faculty, and staff. Shared infrastructure takes advantage of economies of scale.

Security What risks does use of the service mitigate? Unauthorized printer use How does the service mitigate risks? Log in with NetID and NetID password, authentication via CU Web Auth Printers located in network 10-space and/or behind firewalls Jobs only accepted from Net-Print servers

Addition of PaperCut Enhances Value Proposition Product: PaperCut MF with many Cornell-specific integrations Gives us the continued ability to support a campus-wide printing service New features include: Printing from mobile devices and Linux Secure release (release sensitive jobs at printer using ID card) Find-me printing (print at one location, release at another) Differential charging by paper size and other attributes Detailed reports of printer usage Potential to significantly reduce number of office printers.

Timeline of Phased Roll-Out Printing Working Group convenes regularly to ensure smooth transition. Monthly consultation with Princeton University. Architecture, Art and Planning now using new, enhanced Net-Print system with PaperCut print engine since June 20th: Eight black-and-white printers Ten color printers Two multi-function printers 13 plotters 20 ID card readers. OADI (Office of Academic Diversity Initiatives) using new reporting features to contain printing costs since August 1st. Campus roll-out, second week of January 2017.
