2 Innovative Technology
Over the past six years, Student Financial Services (SFS) in partnership with infiNET Solutions has enhanced customer service to students by utilizing innovative technology through numerous self-service applications such as: Web applications e-commerce UIC University of Illinois at Chicago

3 Intellectual Property Agreement
UIC has entered into intellectual property agreements with infiNET Solutions, which allows several of the innovative applications to be marketed to other institutions. UIC University of Illinois at Chicago

4 On-line Web Service Utilization
One of the primary modules of use is a web-based program, QuikChekTM that provides a suite of financial self-service applications that students can access without operator intervention. Two of these applications are: ACH-Direct Deposit ui-pay UIC University of Illinois at Chicago

What is ACH? Automated Clearing House (ACH) is an electronic method of transferring credits and debits between financial institutions more commonly known as Direct Deposit. UIC University of Illinois at Chicago

ACH Standards There is a network of ACH providers that are governed by the National Automated Clearing House Association (NACHA) operating rules. The University’s NACHA provider is Bank One, and we adhere to bank encryption standards for ACH data transmission. UIC University of Illinois at Chicago

Direct Deposit (ACH) Direct Deposit allows students to have their financial aid and student account refunds deposited directly into a checking or savings account of their choice. Students can complete a Direct Deposit application online and submit it securely over the Web. Direct Deposit application and cancellation forms can be found on the various campus Websites. Application Form After a user completes all required information and submits the application, he/she receives a confirmation page, which can be printed. UIC University of Illinois at Chicago

Cancellation Form To cancel enrollment, users must complete and submit a Cancellation Form. Once submitted, an is sent to the Accounts Receivable Office, and the participant is deleted from the program. UIC University of Illinois at Chicago

11 Direct Deposit - Benefits to Students
Increases access to the Direct Deposit application: worldwide -24 hour access Posts transactions quickly Increases the timely receipt of funds Decreases number of checks being sent to incorrect addresses Reduces number of lost checks UIC University of Illinois at Chicago

Earlier receipt of payments Reduces resources needed for processing payments and disbursements Reduces cost associated with paper transactions Improves reconciliation procedures Reduces opportunities for fraud UIC University of Illinois at Chicago

What is ui-pay? ui-pay is a web-based payment method for students to pay their student account bills over the Web using a credit card, debit card, or electronic check from a checking or savings account. In addition to making payments, students may also: View their online account history, and Authorize other individuals, such as parents or guardians, to view their bill and pay all or part of the balance due. User Friendly Layout A user friendly screen layout quickly lets customers choose their payment type and electronically make their payment—quickly and easily. Graphics are used to clearly show users the needed information. UIC University of Illinois at Chicago

16 Administrative Access to Reports
Through use of an administrator site, authorized UI staff can access summary and detailed reports about transaction activity. Administrators can view data for each specific campus or for the entire UI system. UIC University of Illinois at Chicago

17 Additional Administrative Functionality
The administrative function also allows University staff to assist students by: Viewing their account history, Reviewing bank processor transactions, and Verifying payments. UIC University of Illinois at Chicago

18 ui-pay Credit Card Types
ui-pay accepts four types of credit and/or debit cards. The following shows the percentage of users: Card Type Percentage American Express 6% Visa 52% MasterCard 33% Discover 9% * There is a 2% convenience fee charged on all credit and debit card transactions. A 2% convenience fee is assessed by the the University for all debit and credit card payments made through ui-pay, to cover costs ensued. UIC University of Illinois at Chicago

For e-commerce the University utilizes: E-commerce industry standard practices such as: data encryption, firewalls, and strong software and physical security Banking standards for data transmission to the bank UIC University of Illinois at Chicago

Allows customers to make web-based credit card and e-check payments Provides additional payment options Provides a secure and convenient way for customers to make tuition and fee payments Gives customers 24/7 access to bill payment UIC University of Illinois at Chicago

Allows the University of Illinois to remain competitive in the higher education market Provides a more cost effective method of processing payment transactions Automates the Accounts Receivable system and the release of financial holds Insures the University’s compliance with FERPA yet allows payment flexibility Enables staff to provide quality customer service through the new administrative functions. Success of ui-pay The success of ui-pay is shown through the statistics. Since implementation in mid-December of 2001, the University has processed over 8,500 transactions and $8.7 million dollars through the ui-pay system. UIC University of Illinois at Chicago

Challenge The biggest challenge the University of Illinois faced in terms of consistent standards was to standardize policies and procedures across all three UI campuses: Chicago, Urbana, and Springfield. UIC University of Illinois at Chicago
