Ms. Oviatt’s What do you need to know?

During class… 3 B’s Be on time Be on task Be respectful

Beginning of class… Entering the room Go quietly to your assigned seat. If a problem should arise with your seat, see me after class and I will make a judgment call as to whether your seat needs to be changed.

No one is to get out of their seat without permission for any reason. Movement No one is to get out of their seat without permission for any reason. I will let you know when it is appropriate.

Supplies 3 ring binder (2-3 inches) Page Protectors (optional) Pencil pouch or box for materials that include: Pencils with erasers individual pencil sharpener Highlighters Colored pencils Glue Stick

Tests/Projects 40% After each unit of study a common assessment of 40 multiple choice questions or project with rubric are given. You are given a study guide before each test and expected to study. Save all your tests with the correct answers marked to assist you in preparation for the countywide final exam.

Quizzes 30% Quizzes are given periodically. Some are announced and others are unannounced so review nightly.

Classwork 20% All notes, some homework, and most classwork get stored in the notebook for your reference. You are expected to come to class prepared, punctual, and organized. Online posts of notes, worksheets, and other resources are updated regularly. Put your name on your work!

Homework 10% Although written homework may only be a couple times a week, studying vocabulary and in class information should be done every night. Upon entering class, copy the homework from the board into your agenda. Homework is due at the next class meeting unless instructed otherwise.

Grades and Late Work You earn your grades; teachers do not randomly give them. If work is late, one or two days, 60% is the highest possible grade to obtain. No late work accepted after 2 days. You receive 1 day for every day absent to complete make-up assignments.

Contacting/Responding/Talking Raise your hand to ask or answer a question… accompanied verbal outbursts are controllable. The only stupid question is the one not on the topic discussed.

Quiet Signals My signal for getting students to STOP, LOOK and LISTEN is a clap or a simple request for attention. Whenever students hear the request they should stop what they are doing and give their undivided attention quickly. We all want class to go by quickly.

Prohibited Items NO Hats Book bags Gym bags Phones should not be in sight and should be turned off.

Your Areas Desk (Your desk ONLY!) Front bookshelf- Bring a book to class daily to read if you finish early and for DEAR time. Pencil Sharpener- You should only use the classroom sharpener as backup.

Ending Class Finish work early: read a book, start homework, study, or work on next day’s lessons (if assigned). Do Not Talk or Disturb others! (Be Respectful)

Dismissal The bell lets the teacher know it is time to dismiss the class. Dismissal is by teacher. Materials borrowed should get returned to where they were found. Lets keep the classroom clean. A QUIET class leaves.

Bathroom Bathrooms should be used during class changes. BE ON TIME. Use the bathroom during lunch. Plan accordingly.

Lockers Do not share lockers or exchange combinations. A lost lock will cost you $5 to replace.

Absent Students who miss class for any reason are expected to make up work. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE STUDENT TO GET MISSING ASSIGNMENTS. Check your folder and TOC for missed work. Check Wiki when in need. Some assignments you will need to get from another classmate.

Subs & Visitors The substitute is following the teacher’s directions. If you have a problem with the assignment, you discuss it with me when I return and not them. Treat them with respect! Any student on the Discipline Sheet will automatically will be given a consequence.

Cafeteria No breaking the line. Once you are seated stay seated. Get permission by raising your hand for the restroom. All areas must be clean before leaving the cafeteria.

Any questions? Make sure you read and understand the classroom syllabus, sign and get a guardian to sign, then return. You are important therefore your actions are also important. Be a success!
