Why is it important to have procedures in a classroom?

Procedures: the sequence of actions or instructions to be followed in solving a problem or accomplishing a task On the following slides are procedures to help our classroom run smoothly. On a separate sheet of paper, to be turned in for a grade, copy each of the procedures. REMEMBER IF YOU HAVE A QUESTION, RAISE YOUR HAND!!

Completing Bellwork As you enter class, proceed directly to your assigned seat. Put last night’s homework on your desk. Copy tonight’s homework assignment into your agenda. Keep your agenda open on your desk. On the first day of the week, you will receive a WEEKLY REVIEW. This is your Bell Work each day. Complete as many problems as you can independently. Be prepared to ask questions. If you finish early, READ. Questions will only be answered if you have attempted the problem independently first. WEEKLY REVIEW will be collected at the end of the week as a daily grade. I will walk around, checking your homework and agenda.

Coming Into Class Late If you are coming into class after the bell has rung, complete the following steps: –Proceed directly to your assigned seat. –Do not distract others. –Be silent. **Remember when you are late to class you are missing valuable math time.**

Group Alert When I need to get your attention quickly: Listen for my signal. “One, Two, Three, Eyes on me.” Immediately stop what you’re doing and stop all talking. Eyes on teacher. Wait silently for instruction.

Sharpening Pencils Pencils should be sharpened before class begins, but in the event that one breaks during class: –Use your hand held pencil sharpener at your desk.

Throwing Your Trash Away: If you need to throw something away, leave it on the corner of your desk and wait until after class to throw it away. DO NOT GET OUT OF YOUR SEAT for any reason!!

Leaving During Class In the event of an emergency: Raise your hand Wait silently for teacher to respond. If given permission to leave the room, fill in date, time, and destinations sections in your planner and bring to teacher for signature. Leave class quietly, with minimal distraction to others, and return promptly.

Leaving Class-Dismissal When class is over, complete the following steps: Collect all your personal belongings. Pick up any trash around your desk even if it is not yours. Straighten your desk. Be silent. Wait for teacher to give final directions and/or reminders.

Returning from and Absence When you are coming back from an absence, complete the following steps: Ask the teacher for missing work when she checks homework and agendas. Check my notebook after class, as well, to find out specifically what you missed. Check with at least two peers in class to clarify any questions that you have. If you are still confused, see the teacher after class or the next day. REMEMBER IT IS UP TO YOU TO GET AND COMPLETE YOUR MAKE-UP WORK!!

Lunch Procedures Silent in the hallway as we walk to lunch Quiet voices in the lunchroom Sit with your class Clean up after yourself Wait to be dismissed

Work Session Today you will complete a survey on how you best learn mathematics. This survey will help me to understand you better as a learner. I will use this information as I plan future lessons. Take this assignment seriously, and take your time.

Closing Create 5 multiple choice questions about classroom procedures. You must have ABC choices. Example: –When coming into class late you should: A. proceed directly to your assigned seat silently B. wander around the room C. disrupt your classmates learning
