Classroom Procedures and Expectations 2015-2016

Why Do We Have Procedures? They are a part of life – we follow procedures all the time. They can help things to run more efficiently, and make things safer. They help to establish our classroom culture, making it a better environment to learn.

How to Enter the Classroom Calmly enter the room and take your seat. Immediately start the bell ringer. If you are not in your assigned desk before the bell rings, you are TARDY! Do not enter if the door is closed or if there is not a teacher present.

Starting Class You start the class- not the teacher! Take out any homework that is due and leave it out on your desk. Copy down tonight’s homework. Complete the “Bell Ringer” activity on the board. Make this is a routine!

What to Do With Your Belongings All of your belongings should be placed on the shelf under your chair or under the table. Make sure nothing is in the aisles. For safety reasons, please DO NOT lean back in your chair, pick up the desk above your head, OR stand on a desk!

If You Are Absent -Make sure YOU pick up your work when you return to school! -See syllabus for late grades. You are responsible for your own missed work. Be responsible!

If You Are Tardy Students will not be allowed into any class without a tardy pass. The teacher will have the door locked even if it is right after the bell rings. If you are tardy, you must get a pass and you will then be allowed into class with the pass. Your tardy records will be kept by the school system. As soon as you have a tardy, the system will automatically contact the parent/guardian to inform them of the tardy. There will be consequences for tardiness that will be handled by the disciplinary specialist and the attendance committee

Turning in Papers Homework needs to be handed in when it is due - NOT late - and NOT early! Pass all papers to the front row. People at the end should pass the entire row down. The last person should bring all of the papers to the teacher’s desk.

Using the Bathroom Only one person is allowed out at a time. Take the bathroom pass and sign out. Wash your hands before you come back PLEASE!

Using Classroom Supplies This room will be stocked to help you complete your classwork. ASK BEFORE USEAGE! Supplies are for use in THIS room only. Remember to return all supplies back to the appropriate container when you are finished with them.

When the Teacher Wants Your Attention When I want your attention, I will: Stand in front of the class Say, “Give me 5…5-4-3-2-1.” “Clap once if you hear me, clap twice if you hear me.” Wait for everyone to be quiet Begin speaking

When You Want the Teacher’s Attention Raise your hand. Wait for me to respond. Be patient. I may be helping another student. Please interrupt me if it is an emergency! Don’t be this guy.

How to Set Up a Paper Each paper should have four things in the top left hand corner: Last, First name. Subject/Page # Date Period **Interactive notebook setup on bulletin

If You Finish Your Work Early Check to make sure that you answered all the questions. Is there a back side? D.E.A.R book Study your vocabulary words. Choose a prompt and write in your journal Start working on your homework.

Classroom Discussions Please participate! We want to hear what you have to say! Make all questions or comments relevant to the current discussion or topic. Please refrain from shouting out ideas. Have respect for your classmates’ ideas.

Consequences for Breaking Classroom Rules 1) Verbal Warning 2)Parent Contact/Detention 3)Referral to Administration NO PHONES ALLOWED AT ANY TIME. No warnings, just confiscation.

If the Fire Alarm Goes Off Stop what you are doing immediately. Quickly and quietly line up at the door. Head for the designated exit. Shut the door if you are the last person out of the room. No talking in line.

End of Class Dismissal The teacher dismisses the class, not the clock! Class is over when I say “Have a great day!” Do not start packing up ahead of time. Pick up the floor around you. Push in your chair. Take all of your belongings with you.
