8 Entering and Starting Class
Wait to be invited into the class Come in QUIETLY in your assigned seat Get out your materials for the day Put your backpack under your chair or table Fill out your agenda with the homework (or if there is no homework, write “none”) Get started on the warm-up if there is one If there is no warm-up, make sure your homework is out and ready to grade, with a pen! THIS SHOULD BE A QUIET TIME

9 Information on the Board
Objective Look here for hints about what we will be covering and what I expect you to know TO DO This is what we will be doing today in class Homework Look on the agenda to see what the homework is for that night and COPY THIS INTO YOUR AGENDA!

10 What should happen during class?
LEARNING! It is your JOB to learn. Pay attention and focus and being a good learner Participate! Answer questions, ask questions, Do all the math work in pencil, only! Stay organized

11 What should not happen during class?
You should never be: Talking out of turn Talking while others are talking Not paying attention Talking to your neighbor about non-math related topics Getting out of your seat without permission

12 How do I leave the room properly?
Mrs. Lyons dismisses you, NOT the bell Push in your chair, clean up your trash and WAIT to be dismissed! And WALK to your next class 

13 Leaving the Room During Class
Not acceptable If there is something you absolutely have to leave for, you must SIGN OUT and SIGN BACK IN on the clipboard by the door.

14 Grading NO WORK = NO CREDIT 65% Assessment (Tests and Quizzes)
35% Practice (Homework, Warm-ups, Class work) You must show all your written work on all assignments and tests in order to get credit! NO WORK = NO CREDIT

15 Homework Will be assigned almost every night
We will grade all homework assignments the next day in class (Bring a pen!) You may redo any homework assignment for a better grade This is an opportunity to fix mistakes to learn the math better!

16 Redoing Homework f you did not get a good grade or want to do better on an assignment, you should re-do the assignment to help you better understand for the test! You only have to re-do the problems you missed! Staple your re-do problems to the original assignment when you turn it back in. You may redo any homework assignment for a better grade. You must come in for first 5 minutes of lunch and re-grade it yourself to self-assess your progress.

17 Behavior Expectations
After 4 tardies, you will receive a written office referral, and a call home. RAISE YOUR HAND if you have a comment or question. Do not blurt out your thoughts. See poster for other expectations (class rules)

18 Finals In 6th grade, you will take a Semester 1 Final in December and a Semester 2 Final in May. These will count for 10% of your overall semester grade. They will cover everything from that semester. This is why it is so important to keep all corrected work and tests (Study Materials) for the whole semester.

19 Homework Policy You MUST do your homework. It is not optional for this class. IT’S A LEARNING TOOL If something is late, you can turn it in but you must come in at the beginning of lunch, grade it, and turn it in. After this becomes a habit, Mrs. Lyons will take a 15% late penalty. If you do not turn in your assignment, you will have a zero in the gradebook until it is turned in.

20 What if I am absent?

21 What if I am absent? YOU are responsible for making up what you missed. This can be done during lunch, homeroom (with permission from teachers), or at home. Look on my WEBSITE CALENDAR to see what you missed or BACK OF THE ROOM CALENDAR Worksheets we did will be in the blue folders on the back table, sorted by weeks of the quarter. You must come in at lunch or homeroom to grade the work, since you missed grading in class. Your absent work must be turned in within 2 days of your absence.

22 Got it all????????? Good ;) Just kidding….you probably won’t remember all of this. That is why this PowerPoint will be on my website for you and your parents to look over in the future and review any rules of my class.
