Michel RAYMOND – April 14 th, 2011 Technical Support Activities in PH-ADO-PO Goals for 2011

M. Raymond – April 14 th, 2011 Summary of 2010 Shut Down activities The full team has been involved in the opening/closing operations, it took all our resources for 9 weeks + significant support from LAL and JINR However, we managed to do many activities with lower level of priority 1- To improve the working and safety conditions Installation of Platform extension on sector 13 (voussoir level) Manufacture and installation of access to BOS muon chambers in sector 10 Manufacture and installation of access to BOS muon chambers in sector 16 Extension of platform in sector 5 (access to last BOL chamber) Addition of new platform in sector 9C 2- To prepare the EES installation Modification of platforms sectors 3 & 7 Modification of platforms sectors 11 & 15 Installation of remaining EE platforms Continuation of the survey and installation of rails 3- Technical support Protection of BIL and BIS chambers Machining of part for ZDC Building of scaffolding Cleaning and protection of bedplate bolts Support for cabling - Many new cables are installed for various systems: cryogenics, new magnet turbo pumps, DSS, DCS

M. Raymond – April 14 th, 2011 Main activities and objectives Shut down activity Following Chamonix conference, and more recent discussion, the plan is to run LHC for a long period (at 3.5 Tev), at least until Winter 2012, may be until springtime 2013, Then a long shut down (15-18 months) is planned for large intervention required before the machine can go to 7 TeV. Preparation of next opening operations is our priorities, two main systems to be prepared : EE installation at the end of 2011 IBL and nSQP (Pixels) in 2013 The opening/closing sequence on winter 2011 is still under discussion But we must be prepared to a very tightened time schedule, will probably need shifted hours too ! BUT a technical stop of about 12 weeks is foreseen at the end of 2011

M. Raymond – April 14 th, 2011 Main activities and objectives Participation to Safety : TSO, RPA, RPE, Patrols (on normal hours) We have now some experience there, probably a few aspects to improve but it works Infrastructure and safety system (Charles, Didier) Technical support to various sub-systems, when access is granted Support to safety system Everyone must be prepared to intervene in UX15 at every Maintenance Days : next ones should be on May 9 th, then June 20 th Magnet (Philippe) Installation of ECT turbo-pumps Upgrade of AFT, development on alignment system Design of anti-sismic brackets Warm structure check Comment : names are given to figure out who is doing what in the sub-section, most of the time the tasks are shared between people

M. Raymond – April 14 th, 2011 Main activities and objectives Maintenance and upgrade of the existing movement system (Frédéric) Yearly maintenance of hydraulics components Development of automatic movement of JF nuts Development of automatic release/lock of Z-bracket Scaffolding improvement (Louis + Gevorg) New folding bridges to be mounted and load tested To complete the Inner gap scaffolding To make definition and purchase scaffolding for other gap Manufacture of various devices (drawings from Design Office) Platforms (top of ECT-A, BT pumps sector 13) More generally, all tooling necessary to open, close or access in Atlas Alain, Armen, Christian, Louis, Vito … + others if needed

M. Raymond – April 14 th, 2011 Main activities and objectives Mock-up for IBL project (Louis, Francisco) Machining of parts and assembly Coordination of the activity / collaborators Test and development around the mock-up EES chamber (Christian + Armen) Manufacturing of tooling Chamber integration Chamber installation at winter 2011 (all of us ?) Support to nSQP (Vito) Manufacturing of boxes all mechanical work required by the project Logistics (Francisco) Organization and supervision of the storage in surface buildings Layout of the IBL area To record the tooling in the database and organize long term storage
