Development for LS2 08/09/2015R. Vuillermet PH-ADO-PO7

nSW project TC is in charge of the following task. The design, the procurement and the assembly of the nJD and nSW structures. (Giancarlo, Marco, Julien, Jamie, Augusto) Design of the movement system (Michel, Tomasz, Augusto) Design of the transport and lifting system (Raphael, Vit, Augusto) Envelop definition (Tatiana, Alexandre) Installation of the sectors on the nSW structure The design is well advance and a technical design review will take place on 2d of November. After the review feedbacks, tendering and procurement process will start.

nJD/nSW 08/09/2015R. Vuillermet PH-ADO-PO9 Particularities of this nSW/nJD is that the structure of the chamber support is connected with the structure of the JD for stiffness reasons.

08/09/2015R. Vuillermet PH-ADO-PO10 New movement interface to cope with the new centrum of gravity A-plate to stiffen the JD Sectors are a package of MicroMegas and sTGC Chambers (that are going to be assembled in b180) New alignment bar system

08/09/2015R. Vuillermet PH-ADO-PO11 New Small Wheel Frame is not movable on the hub as it is for the current one but linked to the JD to reinforce it to have more precise geometrical supports for the sectors.

08/09/2015R. Vuillermet PH-ADO-PO12 New JD is made of 40mm tick plate instead of 80 mm for the current one. Assembly will be done vertically in b191. Small windows to provide access to the chamber kinematical mounts

08/09/2015R. Vuillermet PH-ADO-PO13 New Hub in copper.

08/09/2015R. Vuillermet PH-ADO-PO14

nJD/nSW movement system (Michel, Tomasz) 08/09/2015R. Vuillermet PH-ADO-PO15 Design the new movement system compatible with the new mass repartition of the JD/SW Solution : New blocking jacks system One removable air pad

Transport and lifting tool Develop the transport tools to move the nJD/nSW from b191 to SX1 and from SX1 to UX15. Develop the transport procedure considering the time and space constrains in the buildings. New concept respect to the current transport frame 08/09/2015R. Vuillermet PH-ADO-PO16 Resting frame Lifting tool

With this two tooling we can save the rotating operation on air pads in SX1(time and manpower consuming) as is can be done thanks to the crane hook 08/09/2015R. Vuillermet PH-ADO-PO17

In parallel to the design, FEA simulation are on going to validate the design to end up with a realistic proposal

Done: BIS7/8 layout and envelope for standard sectors 2,4,6 discussed and agreed Alignment concept Preliminary installation scenario study Ongoing study: Layout and envelope drawing for standard sectors Critical areas of envelope Total number: 16 chambers Small tube MDT + RPC BIS7/8 chambers (SMDT + RPC) (Alexandre, Wim, Tatiana)

BIS7/8 chamber

Development for LS3 08/09/2015R. Vuillermet PH-ADO-PO21

End-Cap Calorimeter flange calculation (Augusto, Michel) Verification of deformation and stresses inside the flange of the end-cap calorimeter for LS3 possible upgrade. New elastoplastic finite element model developed to control locally the material behavior. 08/09/2015R. Vuillermet PH-ADO-PO22

ITK (Augusto, Raphael, Michel) Installation scenario Definition of the installation option Verification of the rail support option Control of the bolted connection of the rail and bolted option Propose a design for the interface between OC and rail system Prepare insertion test during LS2

-BI layer MDT front end electronics replacement (RO side) -RPC installation for BI layer of chambers ( BIS, BIL, BIM, BIR) Done: Feasibility study Time and manpower estimations for 2 scenarios Ongoing activity: Summary document Total number: RPC and electronics for all BIS, BIL, BIM, BIR chambers Installation foreseen: LS3 BI S BI L BI project studies (Tatiana, Alexander)

MDT front-end electronics New RPC chambers

BI project sectors 11, 15 BIM2C1 1 BIM1 C11

CAD models and layout drawings improvement 1.Update of Muon layout drawing with chambers installed during LS1: BOE and BME in sector 13 (Gevorg) 2.Correction of EIL4 models with position of movement mechanism. Creation of simplified models in run position and radial opening for all sectors (Tomasz) 3.EEL, EES – creation of simplified models for integration study purpose (Gevorg) 4.Assembly drawings for LS1 EB and inner gap schaffolding (Gevorg) 5.Update USA15 model with equipment installed during LS1 (Tomasz) 6.JF lifting table model 7.BEE chambers on ECT simplified models 8.Z0 cable trays as-built update Reverse Engineering (Tatiana, Alexander, Gevorg, Vit, Tomasz, Wim)

Conclusion and activities 08/09/2015R. Vuillermet PH-ADO-PO28

Conclusion At the end of 2015 most of the engineering activities will concentrate on the BMG, BIS7&8 and nSW which are important milestone for ATLAS TC in the short term. Some of us will nevertheless continue the effort on for LS3 on ITK and BI which are also challenging project and demanding to clarify several points to prepare TDR. 08/09/2015R.
