ATLAS closing scenario  Where we are  What is still be done before closing (ADO-PO support)  Closing scenario / Procedure / Schedule Prepared by Michel RAYMOND ADO-PO section meeting March 12th, 2009 March 12th, 2009

M. Raymond ADO-PO meeting – March 12 th, 2009 2 Where we are Side ASide C Side A Side C Atlas is in standard opening configuration Nominal gaps are granted except at a very few locations (Tile Extended Barrel) Access exist and are evolving depending on systems requests Most of them complies with expectations (2 sectors not reachable on BEE C side) No particular complain caused by the new layout of the Round scaffolding Current situation should be the baseline for future, including necessary improvements

M. Raymond ADO-PO meeting – March 12 th, 2009 33 Just to remind where the ADO-PO operation team is involved What is to be done before closing  EEL muon chambers installation in sector 5  Ring segments modification on JD  Shielding of LVPS on End Cap calorimeters  BOL6A11 and BOL6C15 repairs  Magnet preparation Only the main tasks that have to be done before the closing are mentioned To check all functionalities of the movement system A few improvements are on going (Traction control, Air distribution) Spare components have been ordered but will be partially here only, because of very long delivery time Done On going

M. Raymond ADO-PO meeting – March 12 th, 2009 4 Closing scenario : overview It will be the reverse scenario compare to the opening 1.Closing of side A 2.In parallel, fiber replacement on Big Wheels MDT chambers side A + closing of C side Octagonal shielding will be installed for the 1 st time 5 weeks Dismounting of platform Removing of BT Vacuum pump Chamber installation BT vacuum pump back Modification (?) and platforms back

M. Raymond ADO-PO meeting – March 12 th, 2009 11 Last activities 11/06/2009 24/06/2009 27/07/2009 06/08/2009 Magnetic test 15/07/2009 22/07/2009 EE side A EE side C Octagonal shielding side A Work on VJ beam pipe & LUCID Install JFC3 + plug Rails set up Lower compressed truck + JF table Truck positioning - hydraulic connection Lowering of JFS3 bottom part JFS3 bottom part positioning Air pads removal JFS3 top part installation - TAS survey Octagonal shielding side C Removing of all equipment and material from UX15 Shafts closing Activity in parallel on both sides need a very sharp organization

M. Raymond ADO-PO meeting – March 12 th, 2009 12 Improvement foreseen on closing/opening movement Improvements about the procedure close collaboration between Operation team and Safety team Follow up of the procedure and task durations Analysis of the procedure + Go to more details when necessary Add to the procedure the clear information on which material is removed and when Addition in the procedure of RPE intervention. Technical improvements on movement system Air flow panels have been lowered from top of the truck to the floor of the trench To monitor air will need one tech. instead of two Tech. will stand much further from activated area Many components duplicated to save not only time but also handling and access close to activated area Connection between Bcam and movement HMI is being developed will reduce the need of survey and make us more confident during movement

M. Raymond ADO-PO meeting – March 12 th, 2009 13 Plans for detectors positioning End Cap calorimeters Overall policy = do the same than during 1 st closing in 2008 Method and tooling is kept unchanged 1.Checking of the distances between Tile fingers and ITC 2.Adjustment of stoppers and electrical switches 3.To perform the movement until stoppers are touching What is our goal : nominal position or “previous run” position ? To be confirmed JD + Small wheels 1.Tilt back the JD to the nominal angle 2.Adjust the new ring segments accordingly Goal : be as close as possible from nominal position End Cap Toroid Big wheels So far, no change in requirements  no change in the procedure Goal : be as close as possible from “previous run” position ? To be confirmed Measurement done on C side after fibers replacement shows no relative movement between wheels. Last positioning will be reproduced Shielding Goal : place the various parts as they were, Final survey needed (for magnetic reason)
