18 July 2006A.Ciocio -SCTSG5 Type IV Cables - Installation All type IV cables (2044+spares) going from PP3 racks in the ATLAS cavern to PS racks in US15 installed (+ connectors) Type IV going to USA15 almost completed –64 double harnesses to install (128 cables) –6 more days Testing in racks after installation and first cut ongoing Completed installation is expected in one week

18 July 2006A.Ciocio -SCTSG6 Type IV – Connectors in situ All connectors (2000+) in US15 completed on March 10 (a few were left but they are done now) Many racks are tested before and after plug into PS (Petr with Prague team) Very good yield but some rework was necessary One rack (the very first one made more than an year ago) needs cables rerouting (cables were cut too long by previous company) 2+1 CPE techs returned in mid-April for a few weeks –US side was reworked –Started 2 USA racks but left again because more USA15 racks were needed to be completed for the full team to operate efficiently A team of 6 techs (1 supervisor) will return this week Estimated completion of connectors in USA racks: End of August

18 July 2006A.Ciocio -SCTSG7 PP3 Assembly and Installation completed Checks for shorted units and problems in progress Plug-in of type IV cables Problems found after installation in the last few months –Insulation –Sliding units in subracks –Failed units (2+) PP3 units installed in racks Channel Spare units in racks 4261 4088 173 PP3 - failed (back for inspection and rework)10 Subracks (30 PP3 units in a shell)137 Subracks - special (shells of 30 partially filled with PP3 and the rest with empty boxes) 9 Subracks – mini (shells of 5 units for spares PP3 in a full rack) 4 Extra PP3 units Shells Mini shells Empty boxes 2 4 110

18 July 2006A.Ciocio -SCTSG8 Installation & Testing Activities Type IV Acceptance test (done) Test in rack after installation Test of cut cables after connector in situ work Plug-in cables into PS crates Test with feedtrough Type II-III Preparation ----ALL DONE Acceptance test (partial) Visual inspection Folding the shield and cut it the right amount, fix it Organize boxes with right cables to send for installation Type II-III Installation Mount dPPB1 and dPPF1 (Barrel) Squeezing the cables to fit between pin and clamp holder Plug-in of the delicate JST/FCI connectors to dPPB1 Placing the clamp (now), placing the clip (later) -- DONE (ENDCAP) crimp group of drain wires in a ferrule and catch the ferrule with the grub screws into clamp’s holes Plug in the dPPF1 Type II-III Testing Type II-III replacing bad cables PP3 Burn-in of units -- DONE Assembly into subracks -- DONE Installation into racks of subracks -- DONE Plug-in the cables to PP3 Test of whole chain

18 July 2006A.Ciocio -SCTSG9 Schedule Type II-III barrel installation completed today Endcap cables of sector 11&15 to install after the Solenoid Field Mapping (July 19- Aug 14) Type II-III installationmid-July (Barrel) end of August (last Endcap cables – 494) Type IV installation24 July Connector in situ+testingend of August PS cratesend-July (US side) – September (USA side) PP3 assembly, installation end-July All cables plugged into PP3mid-July- begin August (type IV) end-August (type II-III) Test of whole chainnow – mid September

18 July 2006A.Ciocio -SCTSG10 Plan

18 July 2006A.Ciocio -SCTSG11 PS priorities

18 July 2006A.Ciocio -SCTSG12 Issues PP3 –We find problems as we plug in and test –Type IV all connected by end of July –Hopefully OK when Type III are connected Tester –Different flavor that work with different configuration of cable chain –Multiple laptops failure (~ok now) –Need help at CERN of experts (Ljubljana) when testing whole chain Defective dPPF1 –Some faulty cables were actually due to a bad channel on dPP1 (3 endcap 3 barrel) –Still missing some dPPF1 Connector in situ –Delay will move installation of PS later Need more HELP with testing until end of August (mid September)
