Communication Cycle

Processes Used By Sender-Receivers Acquiring Data Through Sensory Perception Encoding Transmitting Message to Sender-Receiver Verbal Nonverbal Sensory Perception: the complex physical process of taking in data through the five senses.   Data: the things that catch a communicator’s attention, such as objects, people, sounds, memories, messages sent by others

Processes Used By Sender-Receivers Acquiring Data Through Sensory Perception Encoding Transmitting Message to Sender-Receiver Verbal Nonverbal Encoding: the mental process in which the brain organizes the data and tries to assign meaning to it. To encode the brain performs two functions:   The brain connects meaning to the data by filtering it through your previous knowledge and experience. The brain filters the meaning through the brains language center to assign a word symbol or language to the data.

Processes Used By Sender-Receivers Acquiring Data Through Sensory Perception Encoding Transmitting Message to Receiver-Sender Verbal Nonverbal Transmitting: the physical process of sending verbal and nonverbal messages

Processes Used By Receiver-Senders Acquiring Message Sent by Sender-Receiver Decoding Feedback Verbal Verbal Nonverbal Nonverbal Acquiring the Message: the physical process receiver-senders use to take in the sender’s message; this can involve many senses all at once

Processes Used By Receiver-Senders Acquiring Message Sent by Sender-Receiver Decoding Feedback Verbal Verbal Nonverbal Nonverbal Decoding the Message: the mental process receiver-senders use to create meaning from language. To decode the brain performs two functions:   The brain takes symbols such as words and gives them meaning. The brain filters this information through its own bank of language skills and life experiences to determine what message the sender is trying to convey.

Processes Used By Receiver-Senders Acquiring Message Sent by Sender-Receiver Decoding Feedback Verbal Verbal Nonverbal Nonverbal Providing Feedback: the receiver-sender’s observable response to what s/he has decoded as the message.

Communication Cycle *This process then repeats itself. Remember communication is continuous and circular.
