3 Important Terms 1. Sender (also known as the Encoder) – Person who transmits (sends) a message 2. Encode (happens internally) – THINKING of how to craft the message. Putting the message into words or gestures to transmit to the receiver 3. Message – The idea, feeling, or attitude (information) that the sender wants to convey to the receiver

4 Important Terms 4. Channel – The method (or the way) through which the sender delivers the message (written, spoken, text message, gesture, etc) 5. Noise (Internal or External) – Anything that may interfere with the reception or understanding of a message 6. Receiver (Decoder) – The person or thing who receives the message from the sender

5 Important Terms 7. Decode (happens internally) – The process of analyzing & trying to understand a message for meaning (what the receiver understands/interprets from the message) 8. Feedback/Response – The receiver’s response to the sender’s message (verbal or nonverbal)
