Sender (also known as the Encoder) Person or being who transmits (sends) a message Message Idea or information that the sender wants to convey to the receiver

Encode Put message into words or gestures that will be transmitted (sent) to the receiver Channel Method through which the sender delivers the message Example channels: written, spoken, text, message, gesture, look, clothing

Interference (also known as noise) Anything that may interfere with the reception or understanding of a message Can be internal or external Receiver The person or thing who receives the message from the sender

Decode The process of analyzing a message to extract meaning from it What the receiver understands or interprets from a message Feedback (also known as response) Receiver’s response to the sender about his/her message Can be verbal or nonverbal
