Welcome back to school! Mrs. Newberry (room 274)

Welcome to Room 274 introduction My name is Mrs. Newberry. I will be one of your math teachers this year. I have been teaching at Beasley close to 20 years. I have taught in grades 6th and 8th also. I have bachelors degree in mathematics education from Northern Illinois University. I also have a masters degree in curriculum studies from Olivet Nazarene University. I am married and have 2 children. My son is currently in 8th grade and my daughter is in 5th grade. My favorite subject is MATH. I am planning on going back to school in the winter for a reading endorsement.

Uniform policy School Uniform Policy: All students must come to school each day dressed in the appropriate Beasley uniform. Parents will be notified ahead of time of any special events or out of uniform days. Beasley attire includes: * Green or plaid skirts, skorts or jumpers at or below the knee * Green pants, not folded or rolled at the ankles * White, yellow, or green collared shirts (no writing or emblems) * White, yellow or green sweaters or vests, without hoods (Beasley green hoodies are permitted) * Black school shoes or black gym shoes with black laces * Large headbands, bandanas, or scarves are not permitted * Hats are not permitted in the building at any time

Attendance It is important that students attend school everyday. In the event of an absence, students should return to school with an excused absence note. When at student is absent from class, all make-up work can be retrieved upon his or her return to school. Students will have 2 days to complete missed assignments for full credit.

Grade scale A:  90 - 100 B:  80 - 89 C:  72 - 79 D:  66 - 71

Importance of 7th grade This grade is more important than 6th grade. Why? In the beginning of your 8th grade year, you will be filling out applications for selective enrollment high schools. They look at your grades and test scores from 7th grade. You want to maintain good grades. They look at your attendance too. You need to have good behavior. All conduct reports are done online. Schools can access them.

communication It is my goal to stay in communication with parents. This year is an important year for our 7th graders. We must work side by side for learning to occur at school and at home. Please call me at school (773)535-1230,  check the parent portal for up-to-date grades or email me at msnewberry@cps.edu. Please check the Beasley website, I will update their homework everyday on this website. I will not be available to talk during instructional time. E-mail is the best way to get in contact with me.   I want to work as a team. I look forward to working with you this year.

Beasley website I will use the Beasley Website as a form of communication this year. I put all homework and important information on the website beasleyac.org I will post homework for all homerooms on this website.
