Welcome to Pre-Algebra at Davidson Middle School! I am very excited to have you in my class and I look forward to spending time learning more about you. I will be teaching the Florida Common Core Standards. These curriculum standards are designed for all Pre-Algebra students and will be assessed by the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA). If you would like access to these standards, they can be found on the Florida Department of Education website at cpalms.org. What skills will be covered this year? Equations Inequalities Exponents Statistics Functions Slope What math skills should students have before beginning this class? Integer Operations Fractions Decimals Real Numbers What is this course about? Algebra is the gateway course to all higher level math, which makes this a very exciting year. This is your first year of high school credits in Math. There is a mandatory EOC at the end of the year that is required for high school graduation. How will class be conducted on a daily basis? What are the consequences for negative behavior? Be prepared and on time. Show your best effort every time. Stay on task. First offense: Verbal Warning. Second offense: Parent Phone Call. Third offense: Referral to the discipline office. 2 What should you do if you are struggling with a concept?
How will student grades be calculated? 15% Homework Reviews 35% Quizzes* (all quizzes are open book, open notes) 50% Tests* (no notes or books may be used; limited or no calculator use) *All tests and quizzes may be reworked for half points back. Communication Homework assignments will be posted daily in the homework section of the white board. Students are expected to record assignments in their agenda book before the end of class each day. Quizzes, tests, and projects are listed with their due dates in the upcoming events section of the whiteboard. Students will also receive important information via the remind app. Where will assignments be posted? Students and parents can gain access to grades through the parent portal. This site can be accessed by visiting Progress reports will be sent home after the first 4 weeks of each quarter. Report cards will be sent home every 9 weeks. How can students check their progress in this course? Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that you may have. I can be contacted through , phone, or Remind. Phone: (850) (DMS main line) How can parents and students express any concerns that they may have? Homework Homework is assigned daily. Students must show work for every problem. NO WORK = NO CREDIT LATE work is accepted with a daily 10 point penalty. What should students do if they are absent? Copy any notes that were missed from a classmate. After school help is on Thursdays from 1:40 to 2:30 in room 512. Attend after school help. Khan academy is a great resource with helpful videos and practice quizzes.
