3 About the Teacher This is my 21st year of teaching.
Bachelor’s from EMU, Master’s from MSU. I’ve taught English in all grades at AMS I’ve participated in Writer’s Workshops, PBL training, Teacher Lab

6 Materials English binder Pencil pouch:
Students Should Bring every day: English binder Pencil pouch: pencils, red checking pens, highlighters, glue sticks Composition book (writer’s notebook) Independent Reading book (they choose, at their level) Work from previous day

7 Schedule Monday-Wednesday-Friday Tuesday & Thursday
Independent reading in class for 10-15 minutes. They will need a fiction book at their level. Public libraries are a great resource! Tuesday & Thursday Students will respond to journal topics in their writer’s notebook WORD STUDY/ Vocab Tuesdays- Part 1 is due Fridays- Part 2 is due and quiz.

8 Grading Formative Assessment = 25% Summative Assessment = 75%
Follows a points/percentage system and assessments are divided by the following categories: Formative Assessment = 25% (Includes homework and daily assignments.) Summative Assessment = 75% (Includes tests, quizzes, and longer assignments)

9 Homework Policy Homework is listed in the agenda and is due on the specified date. Late work- ½ credit until the end of the unit unless a homework pass is used. A homework pass allows one additional day with no penalty. 1st trimester- 2 homework passes 2nd trimester- 1 homework pass 3rd trimester- 0 homework passes Longer assignments will lose credit at a rate of 10% per day. Students will be informed when it is a longer assignment and they usually count as summative assessment.

10 Tips for a Terrific Year
Check Parent Connect I update assignments regularly. Please allow extra time for essays. Don’t wait until it’s too late. If needed, check agendas. Daily work, homework, and future due dates are projected on the board. When in doubt, me and I will do my best to get back to you within 24 hours. ~Thank you~ It’s going to be a great year!
