Goal: The goal of Math 7 is to develop problem solving skills within each student to enable them to take the skills learned in class and apply them to real world problems. The emphasis on word problems will challenge and develop each student’s critical thinking skills. The end result should be a student that is prepared to excel on the End of Grade test, as well as being prepared for future success in Math 8.

Course Objectives: The items covered in Math include: Scale Drawings (Unit 1); Proportional Relationships Introduction (Unit 2); Circles (Unit 3); Proportional Relationships and Percentages (Unit 4); Rational Number Arithmetic (Unit 5); Expressions, Equations, and Inequalities (Unit 6); Angles, Triangles, and Prisms (Unit 7); Probability and Sampling (Unit 8); Putting it All Together (Unit 9). Eighth Grade units that will be covered in Accelerated Math 7 ONLY are: Transformations (Unit 10); Two-Variable Equations (Unit 11); Functions (Unit 12).

Grading Policy Grades will be determined using a weight system. The chart below gives the weight of each type of assignment: Tests/Projects Weight of 10 Quizzes Weight of 5 Classwork/Homework Weight of 1, 2, or 3 depending on the assignment (teacher discretion)

Homework Homework in this class is designed to help reinforce the concept that was taught that day. It is important for students to practice and also study the material in their notes. Homework should be completed at home, turned in on time, and every problem should have been attempted to receive full credit. If homework is not turned in on time students will have the opportunity to turn it in late for partial credit. A satisfactory homework paper is one that is turned in on time and shows that the effort was made to try all the assigned problems. If you have questions about the homework feel free to come in and ask about them before class starts.

Tests and Quizzes: We will most likely have a test or a quiz every week. If you are present for a test review and are absent the day of the test you will be required to take the test on the day you return. Make-up tests will be given before or after school only. If there is a problem with this, the student should make other arrangements with the teacher to take the test at an alternative time. Failure to make up a test will result in a grade of zero for that test.

Classroom Expectations:
