1 Welcome to Physical Science!
Mrs. LoVallo Room N-1

2 Physical Science is the study of the natural world around us involving matter and energy.
Includes physics and chemistry. Purpose: lay foundation for physical science skills and prepare students for future courses and assessments. Why are we here?

3 Be on time, on task, and prepared to learn every day
Be on time, on task, and prepared to learn every day. #nofreedays, #beproductive Class Rule #1

6 This is a No Meanness zone!

7 No talking while the teacher is talking!
Respect your Teacher!

8 #positiveattitudesonly
Be Positive!  #positiveattitudesonly Class Rule #3

9 Be responsible for your own learning. #workhard, #quitcheating
Class Rule #4

10 Be HONEST! Expectations This rule is one of my pet peeves!
Don’t cheat! Do your own work. If you are caught cheating on any type of assignment, ALL students involved will receive a grade of “zero” for that assignment. Expectations

11 Clean up after yourself and your peers. #notyourmom
Class Rule #5

12 Keep ALL personal electronic devices PUT AWAY in designated area
Keep ALL personal electronic devices PUT AWAY in designated area. #onlywithpermission, #notexting, #notweeting, #noinstagram, #nopictures Class Rule #6

13 When you come into class, put your electronic device in the assigned pocket of the cell phone organizer in the front of the classroom. If I see a cell phone that is not in the designated area at the front of the room, I will take it and send it to the office! We will occasionally use the devices during class, but DO NOT text while we are using the devices…..I will take your phone away! Technology

14 Homework gets turned in at the side of the classroom as soon as you enter class, unless the awesome Mrs. LoVallo tells you otherwise. Please do ALL homework on time! Homework

15

16 Some assignments will be for a grade, while others may be for practice or classwork. You may not know ahead of time what will be for a grade, so always do your best! You are expected to look over your in-class notes for minutes per night! Homework

17 Restroom Breaks/ Office Passes/ Locker Passes
At the beginning of each quarter, you will be given a pass with 3 lines on it. You may use this pass to leave the room, but if you don’t have your pass or you lose it, you don’t go anywhere! Restroom Breaks/ Office Passes/ Locker Passes

18 Lose your pass??

19 Be sure to put your name and period on all of your papers!
Paper Headings

20 As soon as you return, you need to pick up any handouts from the folders under the side bulletin board. If you miss a test or quiz or lab, you will need to see me to make arrangements to make it up. Making up work from absences is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY! Absences

22 Grades will be determined based on point values
Grades will be determined based on point values. Each assignment will be given a point value. At the end of the grading period, all points will be added up and divided by the total number of points possible. Grading scale is the school wide grading scale. Grading Procedures

23 Teacher’s Desk and Student Supplies
My desk is off limit to student use! I have provided a hole punch, stapler, and tape dispenser for you to use by the turn in tray in the front of the classroom. In the supply cabinet when you enter class, I have scissors, glue, rulers, colored pencils and markers. Feel free to use the materials as long as you return them where you found them.  Teacher’s Desk and Student Supplies

24

25 If I am ever not here for any reason and a substitute teacher is here, and your name gets left behind for any negative reason, you will be given a 30 minute after school detention. Substitute Teachers

26 Scope and Sequence Unit 1: Introduction to Science
Unit 2: Motion and Force Unit 3: Work, Power, and Energy Unit 4: Matter and Properties of Matter Unit 5: Atoms and the Periodic Table Unit 6: Electricity Unit 7: Chemical Bonding Unit 8: Reactions of Matter Unit 9: Waves & Thermal Energy Unit 10: The Universe Scope and Sequence

27 What do I do when I have finished my assignments?
Everyone has the right to learn and deserves the same quiet time you had when you did your work. Turn work in appropriate tray and return to your seat and work on something else by yourself. No other work? No problem! Grab a book or read your notes! There is always something to do! What do I do when I have finished my assignments?

29 Although fun, you must be serious about labs
Although fun, you must be serious about labs. Remember: Hands-on = Minds-on! You must complete your lab report with each lab. No goofing off! If you goof off or do something that could potentially harm others, you may be placed on “Lab Probation” where you would receive a zero for any labs conducted that entire grading period. Labs

30 Miscellaneous Tips from Mrs. LoVallo
Always bring a positive attitude to class with you! If you think you can, you can. Science may not come easily to you; if you convince yourself that you don’t understand something, you won’t. Ask if you need help. Miscellaneous Tips from Mrs. LoVallo
