Consequences Course Description Welcome to English 2! Our focus this school year will be on developing our skills as critical thinkers, readers, writers, speakers, and listeners. The development and mastery of these important literary skills are not only important to achieving success in the Language Arts classroom, they are a critical component of achieving success in other school subjects, building strong relationships with others, and attaining a flourishing career as an adult. In many ways, the quality of life you experience now thorough adulthood will depend a lot on how well you read, write, and communicate with others. Do I have to read outside of class? All students will be expected to read independently. Students will receive novels throughout the year, and some reading will need to be completed outside of class. Where do I go to find assignments or information? Basic class information will be on my teacher web page. We will be using Google Classroom regularly to turn in papers, log class discussions, and post announcements. Due date information will also be posted in class. Failure to comply with class expectations can result in negative consequences, including but not limited to – 1. Verbal Warning 2. Parent Contact and Mandatory Detention 3. Referral to Administration and Parent Contact Chromebook Policy We will regularly use Chromebooks in class. Students are expected to use them for educational purposes only, and only when instructed. Failure to comply will result in the same consequences as breaking a class rule and may result in the loss of device usage. Additionally, Chromebooks should be charged before class because outlets in class are limited.

How will I check my grade in class? Grade Breakdown Class progress reports will be sent electronically via or in paper form every three weeks. Parents and students are also strongly encouraged to check the Parent Portal on a weekly basis to view the most current grades for EVERY class. 40% - Assessments ~Tests, essays, projects, presentations, etc. ~You will receive at least 2 assessment grades each grading period. 60% - Daily Assignments ~Daily work, participation, quizzes, homework, etc. What happens if I turn in an assignment late? Work not completed and turned in by the assigned due date will be considered late. Completed late work will receive only partial credit. 10 points will be deducted for every day the assignment is past due. Incomplete late work will not be graded and will result in a zero for the assignment. What do I do if I am absent? Students are responsible for following up with the teacher about any work they missed during an absence. The “student center” in the classroom should have extra copies of handouts. If previously assigned work was due on the day of the absence, the work is due on the first day the student returns otherwise it is considered late. Students will have one extra day to turn in any work assigned on a day they were absent. If a test was administered on a day a student was absent, the test must be made up on the first day the student returns. . Supplies Two composition books At least 100 pages Wide Ruled Notebook Paper Multiple pencils and pens (blue or black ink only) One Chromebook Highlighters or colored pens (optional) One pair of earbuds or headphones (suggested) One box of Kleenex (appreciated) What do I do if I need help? Students will be taught to properly cite sources and should confer with the teacher about any uncertainty.
