COURSE description This course is taught in accordance to AZCRSS and will focus on all branches of science, specifically Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Concepts taught in this course will lay a foundation on which higher-level scientific concepts can be built. Students will learn small concepts, from atoms and cells, to large concepts such as human body systems. Much of this course will be taught through teacher-made notes, presentations and video. Due to this, it is important to attend class daily. ITEMS WE ARE ALWAYS IN NEED OF: Tissue and hand sanitizer.

PARENT COMMUNICATION ABSENCES AND MAKE-UP Parents can communicate year-round through Class Dojo. Teachers will contact parents/guardians to share good news concerning their student’s educational growth, or to discuss behaviors or work habits that might cause the student difficulty in class. Weekly and daily work will be updated weekly (bell work, daily points, and quizzes). Please check grades regularly and feel free to ask me any questions that you might have about a particular grade. If you are absent, you are responsible for completing your make-up work (one day for make-up for each day absent). All make-up work will be placed in your classes’ absent folder and your name will be written on any work you missed. It is your responsibility to ask a classmate or me for any lecture notes you may have missed (you can always borrow my notebook), and/or to meet with Mrs. Dickson to make up any tests, quizzes or papers. If you know you are going to be absent beforehand, you should ask me for your make-up work before the absence. Assignments will not be sent home for students who are absent due to OSS (Out of School Suspension). They must be completed upon your return. _______________________________ GRADING POLICY Progress for students will be monitored using the following methods: Summative Assessments (tests, projects and labs) Formative Assessments (quizzes, homework and classwork) 100-90% A 89-80% B 79-70% C 69-60% D 59 < F 1 2 ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________ HOMEWORK POLICY __________________________________ Students should spend at least 30 minutes each night reviewing notes and completing assignments. Homework is assigned according to AMS Guidelines. Assignments for the week will be posted on Class Dojo and my teacher webpage every Monday. All assignments must be submitted by 1:00 pm every Friday. Students will complete most work in class. However, if students do not complete work during class, in the time allotted, it will be assigned as homework so students can adhere to the determined deadlines. This is in addition to any previously assigned homework. AMSC Demerit System AMSC utilizes a demerit system for behavioral management for Grades 6-8. This system connected to Class Dojo and can be monitored by the student’s parent/guardian. Students earn demerits when behavioral infractions occur. For each incident, at the teacher’s discretion, students will earn 1 demerit. Once a student reaches 2 demerits, they will receive lunch detention. After 4 demerits, the student will receive ISS (In School Suspension). Demerits reset daily, however accumulating 3 lunch detentions in one month results in automatic ISS.
