+ Syllabus Grades are updated weekly and posted in the room and on parent assist (online). Check your grades early and often to keep track of your progress; this is your responsibility. If you want a printed progress report, ask and I will print one for you

+ Syllabus Retest Policy: You can retest Complete at home, not in class If you choose to retest, the highest grade will be taken. Retests on Castle Learning the day scores are posted. You will have 3 days to complete the retest. NO EXCUSES.

+ Syllabus Homework: Homework will be assigned for each unit. Most assignments will be on Castle Learning, but a few will be required to be handwritten or typed. These assignments are in addition to any class work that you may need to finish for homework if you did not complete it during class time.

+ Syllabus: Rules 1. Use Professional, Positive Language at all times 2. Work well with all peers 3. Accept responsibility for your actions 4. Be a leader, not a follower 5. Respect everyone

+ My Advice “Never get caught up with the people behind you because the class will leave you.”

+ Syllabus Absence Policy: It is YOUR responsibility to find out what you missed If work was assigned BEFORE you were absent, it is due the day you return. If work was assigned DURING your absence, you have 5 days to turn in the make-up work. If you miss a test or quiz, you have 5 days to make it up either after school, or during lunch. If you fail to take the test within 5 days it will be a.5% in the grade book.

+ Syllabus Attendance Policy: If you miss more than 6 days of class, you will need to attend recovery in order to pass. It is YOUR responsibility to keep track of your attendance and seek recovery before the end of the semester.

+ Syllabus Class Supplies: Each day, all students are required to have: Composition notebook (required) Pens and pencils Loose-leaf paper (this will only be needed occasionally) Graphing Calculator (Such as: Texas Instruments TI-89 Plus) *Supplies must be obtained by Monday, January 30th, at the latest.

+ Syllabus Leaving the classroom: If you need to leave the classroom, you may use one of your emergency bathroom passes. You MUST have a pass to leave, no exceptions. You should not ask to leave the room while I am talking. No students are allowed in the hallway during the first and last 15 minutes of class. You will receive extra credit points at the end of the semester for turning in unused bathroom passes.

+ Syllabus Leaving your seat: Stay seated at all times You may get up to sharpen your pencil or get a tissue. You should NOT get up during notes or when I am speaking. If you need to get up during that time or for any other reason, you must raise your hand and request permission.

+ Syllabus Ms. Milliner’s Schedule I am available after school most days from 2:30 to 4:00 pm, as well as during most lunches. If you wish to come see me at one of these times, you must sign up and indicate your reason for coming. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE DAY BEFORE THE EXAM TO ASK FOR HELP! YOU NEED TO BE PROACTIVE!

+ Syllabus You will take 10 minutes to create a skit/visual/scenario that shows: 1. A student breaking Ms. Milliner’s 1 st rule of negative language 2. A student following Ms. Milliner’s 1 st rule of only using positive language 3 groups will share to the class

+ Diagnostic You will have 20 minutes to take the diagnostic Take out a sheet of notebook paper Number the paper Write the answer next to each question ONLY IF YOU KNOW THE ANSWER DO NOT WRITE ON THE DIAGNOSTIC DO NOT GUESS

+ Good Experimental Design What do you think are the characteristics of a good experiment? Bad experiment? What rules should we have for when you work in lab groups? What behavior is acceptable? What behavior is unacceptable?

+ Lab Design While watching a basketball Ms. Milliner began to wonder how different the game would be if she changed how bouncy the basketball was. Would AI still be able to spin past his defenders if the ball did not bounce as well or bounced too much? You will design a lab to test how high different balls bounce You will work in groups of 4 You have until the end of the period to begin brainstorming You will share your thoughts with the class
