3 Class Rules Any questions?

4 Class Rules Come to class prepared and on time.
Follow directions the first time they are given. Raise your hand if you have a question or comment. Stay on-task and use quiet voices during group work. RESPECT (to me, yourself, and others). Remember the Golden Rule! 

5 Consequences for Rule Violations
1st offense: Verbal warning and/or seat change 2nd offense: 1 minute after class 3rd offense: 10 minutes at lunch/Phone call home 4th offense: Lunch detention in 317 5th offense: Referral to dean

6 Are you tired of hearing me talk yet?

7 Give us a break!!! Find someone who…
You have 3 minutes to walk around and try to fill in your paper. The first person to complete it gets CANDY!

8 Classroom Procedures Beginning class: Come into the room quietly and go to your seat. Write the day’s assignments and homework in your planner. Begin your warm-up assignment. Ending class: The bell does not dismiss you; I do. Stay in your seat until dismissed. Make sure your work area is clean and chair is pushed in when you leave.

9 Classroom Procedures Leaving during class: Fill out a square from your Quarterly Hall Pass. Show it to me when I am not talking to the class. Take one of the laminated pink hall passes with you when you leave the room. Moving around during class (sharpening pencil, throwing away papers, etc): Only one person may be up at a time. Don’t ask to get up, just do so as long as no one is talking to the class.

10 Classroom Procedures Class materials: You will need a spiral notebook for this class. This will be kept with your hanging folder (I will provide this) and left in the classroom. All assignments should be kept in your folder until you are told to recycle them. Other supplies: Pencil, paper, calculator (occasionally), planner. If you forget something, please ask to borrow what you need BEFORE class begins. Textbooks: Students will be issued a book to keep at home or in their lockers. We have a set of books that we will use in class.

11 Classroom Procedures Need extra help?: APP is your best option to see me for extra help or if you have questions. I am also available the first 5 minutes of lunch and before or after school by appointment.

12 Other Policies/Grading Information
ABSENCES Being absent is NOT AN EXCUSE for incomplete work. DO NOT write “Absent” or “Wasn’t here” on top of a paper expecting that you will get credit for the work you missed. You can get your missed work by: Checking the “Been Absent” file crate. Going to the website. Asking a classmate. Missed labs may require you to come in during APP, watch a video on the website, or get make-up data.

13 Other Policies/Grading Information
SELF/PEER GRADING EXPECTATIONS When grading papers in class, you are expected to be HONEST and ACCURATE. If you are not sure what to mark, ask in class or circle the item you are unsure about. Any evidence of purposeful wrong grading will result in loss of points for the items in question as well as a referral to the dean for cheating. It is also your responsibility to check your paper for accuracy when you get it back. Any errors will be gladly corrected.

14 Other Policies/Grading Information
20% Formative (notes, classwork, homework, labs) 80% Summative (lab reports, exams, projects, spiral) Re-takes will be offered only when all previous work is complete and satisfactory. No re-takes the last week of the quarter. Re-takes must be completed within 2 weeks of original assessment. For additional information, please see visit the “FYI” page of my website for a complete description of Proficiency Learning.

15 Any Questions? Please return your signed Syllabus by TUESDAY, September 15th to avoid a phone call to your parents during lunch! Also, the first class to get 100% turned in will get a FREEBIE FORMATIVE!
