11 Is there assigned seating?  Yes, you are in it now!  I use a class seating chart to record attendance.  Subs use seating charts.

12 What do I need for school supplies?  Paper: 3-ring binder & folder, no need to tear out homework or notes  Writing: pencil or blue/black pen  Covered textbook  Graphing Calculator –YES – EVERY CLASS TI-83 or 84 or ???

13 Do I get a calculator?  Everyone needs a calculator.  You may borrow one for the year from the bookstore.  Tell me immediately if your calculator is MIA or doesn’t work.  If you have not replaced your batteries, I suggest new ones ASAP.

14 What do we do in class?  It’s a math class. We learn math. Painful for some, fun for others.  On the way in,  Pick up any papers on the “desk”.  Write down any homework problems that you want to go over on the board.  Solve any homework problems on the board.  Take notes and do class examples.

15 What are your rules about talking in class?  Yes, you need to raise your hand.  Even after you shout out an answer, you still need to raise your hand.  Be courteous (don’t talk) when others (including me) are speaking.

16 What happens on a quiz/test day?  Quizzes vary. Sometimes they are scheduled, they may be a PowerPoint quiz, they may be a Castle Learning (due a certain day, timed or handed in) or they may be spontaneous and on the fly.  Keep your eyes on your OWN paper.  When finished, if possible, turn quiz over.  Please, NO TALKING until everyone is done.

17 How do you grade hw?  0 – 5 scale based on completeness and effort in using methods taught in class  No work  0  Due at start of class.  1 day late homework is half credit (max).  > 1 day late is 0.  Label with assignment number. i.e. Hw #4 (This is REALLY important.) with your name on it!  Hand them in by the end of class to be graded!

18 Can I go to the bathroom?  Ask before bell.  Yes, if I’m NOT teaching a lesson.  The pass is in the room. You fill out and sign, then I sign.  The bathrooms are down the “hall” (or use the nurses)  NO, if I’m giving a lesson.  When you re-enter the room, fill in the time returned and I sign!

19 How can I find out my grades?  Progress reports for each student will be distributed at each 5 week period.  For additional information, see me privately at the end of class or after school.  Test corrections need to be returned. This is a 10 point quiz grade!! Even if you only have to do one problem!  Your grades are usually updated on the parent portal.

20 What if I’m absent?  See me next the day you return during homeroom!  If it is a planned absence, like a field trip or music lesson, do homework on time and turn in before.  If you are 1-2 days sick, you have 1 day to turn in homework on time. 2 days for longer absences.  No quiz/test extensions are given for missing a review day or class before.

21 Fire drill Procedure  NO TALKING  Go out the door to the left.  Go between crosswalk lines!  Stay together so I can take attendance in parking lot.  NO TALKING!!! Yes, that means YOU!  Return immediately to class. Do NOT walk around or go to the bathroom.

22 Who cleans the classroom?  Everyone’s job!  Pick up your trash at the end of class – do not get up during class. – do not get 2/3 points for a basket.  Keep desks clean – violators will stay and help me clean them  I have paper towels. ASK.  Water bottles only, no soda/juice, etc. accidents happen.

23 What do I do if I’m late to class?  Leave your signed pass on my desk.  Sit quietly at your seat and catch up with the class.  Turn in today’s homework. Place on my desk in basket.  If I ask for your pass, tell me that you already put it on my desk

24 What do I do if I need to go to the nurse?  Go directly to the nurse’s office, do not pass go, do not collect $200…  unless you are bleeding, then let me know so we can contain the problem.

25 Do we have to stay in our seats until the end of the period?  Yes, until the BELL rings.  You are not horses. This is not a race. Do not line up at the door.  No EXCEPTIONS.  Do NOT talk during announcements (or there will be an announcement quiz!

26 Cell phones  NO CELL PHONES during the lesson!!! Never take pictures or videos of the class/classroom!  1 st offense-Verbal Warning.  2 nd offense-Your phone goes to the office.  No EXCEPTIONS.  Tell you parents/guardians to contact the office if it is important.
