1 Orientation to Foundations of Math I and Math I Ms. Edwards Room 513

2 Objective  To welcome my students and clearly explain my classroom rules and expectations. We will look at the supply list, grading policy, attendance and tardy policies.

3 Materials  4 Dividers with Tabs for Binder  Graphing Calculator  4 pack of AAA batteries  1 – 5 subject notebook  Loose leaf paper  Pencils  1’’ – 2’’ 3 ring binder

4 Graphing Calculator  A graphing calculator is required for this course. The following models are acceptable: TI-83 plus TI-83 Silver TI-84 plus TI-84 Silver

5 Class Expectations  Be on time.  Be prepared.  Be engaged.  Be respectful.

6 Teacher Expectations I expect students to have a positive attitude, to have the needed materials, to complete homework, to show a willingness to learn, to ask questions, to seek additional help from the teacher when needed, to exhibit proper classroom behavior, and to follow the rules and regulations as listed in the Students Rights and Responsibilities Handbook.

7 Classroom Procedures  Arriving to Class  Sharpen their pencils.  Be seated.  Place HW on their desks.  Begin warm up activity.

8 Classroom Procedures Working on the Warm Up  Students are expected to copy the warm up questions in their notebooks.  Warm ups are to be completed individually unless otherwise noted.  Warm ups will be given every day. Asking a Question Students must raise their hand and be acknowledged by the instructor.

9 Classroom Procedures Leaving the Classroom  No one is allowed outside the classroom during the first and last 15 minutes of the period. NO EXCEPTIONS!  Students will be given 4 bathroom passes per quarter. Students may turn them in at the end of the quarter for extra credit.

10 Classroom Procedures  Assignment Formatting  All assignments and notes must be completed in pencil. NO EXCEPTIONS!  Students must show all work to receive full credit.  All work should be labeled with students name and the date.  All papers must be stapled together.

12 Classroom Procedures  Absences  The school attendance policies will be enforced.  Students are expected to makeup all missing assignments within one week (5 days) after absence. Students will need to make an appointment to make up any missed test or quiz after school. Students who miss more than 10 days in a semester will not receive credit for the course unless they do recovery.

13 Classroom Procedures Exiting the Classroom  Students should expect to receive bell-to- bell instruction.  Packing up early will not be tolerated.  The bell signals the end of the class but does not dismiss the students.

14 Grading Policy  Informal Assignments 30%  This includes class work, homework, participation, and minor quizzes.  Formal Assignments 70%  This includes major quizzes, tests, and projects.  Exams: Quarter Exam 20%  Semester Exam 20%

15 Make Up Tests and Retakes  Test dates will be announced.  Students in class on testing days will be required to take the test unless they have an excused absence the day(s) before.  Any student may retake a test after school on a scheduled day within two weeks. They must first complete test corrections and a tutoring/remediation session

16 Late Assignments Late assignments will be accepted within 5 days of the date assigned for a maximum grade of a 50.

17 Tardy Policy  Students are expected to be on time to class every day. If students should arrive late to class, they must sign in on the tardy clipboard.  1 tardy – Warning/Parent Contact  2 tardies – Referral

18 Cellphone Policy Cellphones are not to be seen or heard.  1 st offense – Warning  2 nd offense – Confiscated for parent pick up in main office.

19 Consequences  1 st offense – Warning  2 nd offense – Teacher Intervention  3 rd offense – Checkout  4 th offense – Referral
