ENGLISH 9 Mrs. Canfield Contact Phone: (208) Room: S204 Website: Remind App: 5 Essential Rules 1.Golden Rule rules this class. 2.Follow class start and finish procedures. 3.School tardy policy enforced. 4.NO VISIBLE CELL PHONES. 5.No junk food is allowed in class. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR TRASH!! IT MAKES ME CRAZY!! Grades % = A (+/-) 80-89% = B (+/-) 70-79% = C (+/-) 60-69% = D (+/-) 0-59% = F PURPOSE Students will read novels, short stories, plays, and poetry to develop a sense of historical context and to acquire knowledge of applications to their own lives. Assignments will include investigations of literary styles and devices, creative modeling, and written, auditory, oral, and visual analysis of "self" themes in relation to the reading selections. English 9 students will participate in advanced curriculum enhanced with critical thinking skills, independent study projects, research skills and higher-level writing experiences. Assumptions 1.You know right and wrong in class. 2.You want to enjoy our time together. 3.You will try.

Class Routines 1.Enter and get out binder. 2.Sharpen pencils if needed. 3.If late, sign tardy sheet. 4.Copy SAT words and sentences (WORDS checked every 50 words for 25 points) 5.NO EARLY CLEANUP. Work turn in 1.Put work in APPROPRIATE box. 2.If you don’t have it, don’t tell me about it! 3.2 Late Passes per semester. (18 weeks) Participation Points 1.Each week is worth points (5/day) Behavior 1.Class behavior determines class rules. 2.Warning, Outside, Detention/Call home, Referral Word Board 1.Getting on word board = lose 10 points. 2.Redeem points by typing 10 alternate words by Friday. Novels & SAT vocab tests 1.One novel review due every quarter. 2.Vocab test and sentences (typed) every 50 words from daily SAT words
