WELCOME TO 7 TH GRADE HONORS PRE-ALGEBRA Mr. Hedges Room 1004

1. Be seated and working when the bell rings. 2. Treat each person with respect and dignity. 3. Bring all required materials with you and take them with you when you leave. 4. Follow all directions. 5. Follow all rules and guidelines in the student agenda book (no cell phones, bullying, fighting etc.) 6. The bell does not dismiss the class, the teacher does. CLASS RULES :

CLASS PROCEDURE: 1. Arrive to class on time 2. Go to your seat quickly and quietly. 3. Take out your homework, pencils and notebook. 4. Do the “Do Now.” 5. If you complete the “Do Now” before other members of the class, use the time to work on the Problem Of The Week. Remember: Be considerate of others who need quiet time to complete the assignment.

HOMEWORK: * You will have homework each night, Monday - Friday * The assignment will be displayed on the white board and on the class website. * Try! Try! Try! No credit will be given for a blank page. * Seek assistance if you have difficulty! * and Extra Help are available for you…use them.

NOTEBOOK: 1. The notebook must be kept up to date. It is your responsibility to get the notes for days you are not in class. 2. You must have the proper heading on each page. 3. Number all problems and write the page number for the assignment. 4. Show all work. I keep a sample notebook on the back table. Use it as a guideline!

Grading Policy: Homework …..10 % Classwork …..10 % Quizzes ….. 20 % Projects ….. 30 % Tests ….. 30 % A Problem of the Week (POW) is given every Monday and due on Friday. The grade is calculated as a QUIZ grade.

SUPPLIES: 1.Sharpened Pencils with Erasers. Sharpen at the beginning of class! 2.Filler Paper 3.Binder 4.5 Dividers 5.1 Folder with Pockets 6.Highlighters 7.1 Box of Tissues 8.Hand Sanitizer

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY IN HONORS PRE-ALGEBRA LOOK LIKE? 1)Enter the classroom on time, take out your homework, write your homework down for the night, and work on the Do Now. NOTE: Now is the time to sharpen pencils, collect absentee work, and if you finish early to continue working on the P.O.W. 2) Review the Do Now and the previous night’s homework. 3) The day’s lesson. 4) Group activity / classroom simulation / independent practice / games / project

TYPICAL DAY CONTINUED: 5. Exit slip / ask any remaining questions 6. Pack up and wait for me to dismiss you

TELL ME ABOUT YOU… On the index card write your name and what you prefer to be called. What would you like me to know? What do you like best about Math? What do you find most challenging about Math? What is your best subject? What do you want to ask me?

ABSENCES: 1) 2 DAYS from the absent date to make up missed homework. 2) Classwork and homework for each day are located in the folders in the back of the room and on my class website. Important: It is your responsibility to get absent work and to hand it in on time!!!

ENDING CLASS: 1. Return all supplies to where they belong. 2. Check around your desk to make sure you have picked up papers that may have fallen or may be under your chair. 3. Clear your desk. 4. Wait for me to dismiss you. 5. Exit the room in a quiet and orderly fashion.

LAP TOP COMPUTERS: 1) Laptops are assigned by number. Use only the laptop assigned to you! Note: If you forget your number, there is a spreadsheet next to the laptop cart to guide you. 2) When disconnecting the laptop, tuck the cord onto your laptop’s shelf so the wires don’t get tangled. 3) When returning the laptop, place it on the correct shelf and plug it in.

LAPTOP RULES: 1. Report any damage to your laptop immediately. 2. Close your laptop before carrying it around the classroom 3. Never leave your laptop unattended. 4. Always log off before returning your laptop to the cart. 5. You must receive permission before printing and only click print once. 6. Only visit approved websites and use appropriate programs. Students off task will lose their privileges.

FIRE DRILLS: Line up quietly Remain quiet as we exit the building so that you can hear and follow all directions. The last person to exit turns off the lights and shuts the door.

LOCKER POLICY You may go to your locker…. * Before school * Before lunch * After school Please do not ask to go to your locker during class. You must take responsibility to remember to bring your materials to class. If you forgot something, borrow from a friend.

BATHROOM POLICY: 1. If you need to use the restroom, raise your hand to get permission 2. Once you receive permission, quietly sign out and take a pass. 3. When you return, quietly sign in and return the pass. 4. Only one person may leave the room at a time. 5. You will not be allowed to go to the bathroom during the first and last 10 minutes of class.

DISCIPLINARY ISSUES: Any disruption of the class or breaking of policy will result in: 1 st offense: Verbal Warning 2 nd offense: Contact Home 3 rd offense: Detention If your behavior is extreme, the consequences will be extreme.
