In order to ensure a higher understanding of our audience and to be able to plan our tasks accordingly, we have conducted primary research in the form of a questionnaire. We have included questions that help us identify our audience and also included questions that help identify what type of designs of products they preferred. We are looking to be able to make some vital decisions about our project based on our primary research results. PURPOSE

The majority of the audience were between sixteen and twenty years of age and there were slightly more males than females. Most of the audience was local (Harlow), and all of them were residents in nearby locations. The majority of our audience were students, and the second most popular choice was part time in the employment status section. RESULTS

We have asked the audience to list some bands they were interested in, and we have got thirteen different answers. We have done this in order to get an idea of what type of music our audience is interested in and therefore have a reference of what we should be aiming for. As some of the bands that were mentioned we are already familiar with, it is helpful as we can relate to the audience and have an insights into what we would have to aim for in advance.

In order to find out about our audience’s preferences we have asked them about the platforms on which they listen to music, how they acquire their music, how much they spend on music per month and how much they are willing to spend on a music album. This will help us later on in deciding on details about the release of the album such as in which way to distribute them and how much we should sell the album for. We have also asked them what they would want to see in a music video.

We have also asked them about their preferences among given designs of existing album covers and magazine adverts for albums. In order to get a better understanding of the audience we have also asked why they have liked the designs they have chosen. In addition, we have also asked them which they thought represented or suits the rock music genre the most (choosing two).

In conclusion, we have fond that the most popular band was Paramore. We will use this information to our advantage by having similar traits to Paramore in our ideas. Because of locational difficulties we cannot include the official band in our music video, therefore we will stick to the storyline idea. Also, we have found that digital download is more popular than purchasing a hard copy. We are planning to release our finished product digitally as well as with a hard copy, seeing the results of our research. For the digital release of the album, we will use the front cover design of our digipak seeing as it is mostly the most important part of the design. The majority of people have said they listen to music mostly on their phones or their iPods, which has encourage us to release our work on mobile platforms as well, such as iTunes and Spotify. As most people said they are willing to spend around £8 on a music album, we are planning to price our digipak around that price, and the digital download should be the same price. We have found that the most popular albums were quite simplistic but very iconic at the same time. We will design our album cover using these techniques, such as image manipulation to make our digipak appeal to our audience. Also, they have preferred the Killers magazine advert, and their reasoning was mostly equal between layout, text and image. SUMMARY

Through our primary research we have found some information that has led us to come up with ideas while we were researching. We will use our primary research and adapt our ideas to suit our target audience’s needs. For our album cover, we will use image manipulation – such as Photoshop – to make it look as professional as possible and to reflect the band’s image. One of the magazine advertisement choices of the questionnaire was chosen by one of our audiences because they said it looked like a movie poster. We would like to use a similar technique in our work because we think that would look more effective. For our video idea we would like to use eight characters in a storyline setting miming to the song. The music video will relate to the lyrics and speak to the audience. Our idea was to use four characters played by eight actors, where one of the actors would be the grown-up adult version and the other would be a teenage version whenever they take over miming the song. This would relate to the song’s lyrics which is important for the audience we have found. PROPOSAL
