Answers to my magazine questionnaire

Question 1: Gender My results are primarily consisted of females having viewed and commented on my magazine. This works in my favour with regards to diversity and capturing a male and female demographic, however, this may also indicate that I should attempt to aim more at a female audience. I will use my other results to evaluate this fact and decide whether or not this is simply down to more women genuinely wanting to read magazines.

Question 2: Age This shows a majority of my audience being aged 16 – 20, suggesting that my focus should be directed primarily at a younger audience than previously thought. There are a small number of outlying ages (30 – 35/36 – 40), which still indicates a popularity amongst an older generation.

Question 3: Would My Magazine Stand Out? Ranking above the most impressive of my results, is question 3. This shows 100% satisfaction from my audience, all of whom stating that they would be drawn to my magazine naturally. This adds only good things to my results, as it achieves what I would have ideally liked in attracting an audience.

Question 4: Assumed Genres Rock, Indie and Alternative Rock are the primarily chosen options by the audience who saw my magazine. The majority of people said that these 3 genres are best represented by the examples given. This is a good result to see as these are 3 of the main genres I wished to follow and highlight with my magazine.

Question 5: Colour Scheme Once again, 100% of the group completing the questionnaire agreed that the colour code of my magazine suited not only the style I aimed to represent, but also the genres. This is also a positive result as it reassures me of my choices in colour code and genre representation.

Question 6: Front Cover Analysis 75% of those viewing my magazine claimed it consistently represented my genre and style of the genre(s) in the front cover I had produced, with another 16% suggesting it mostly offered clear representation. The remaining 9% claimed the cover merely offered occasional representation. Fortunately, this 9% represents a minority of people, offering little in the way of doubt of my magazine quality. If i were able to find out who these few were, i would very much like to find out what minor changes could be made to make the magazine more appealing to them as an audience member.

Question 7: Contents Analysis For this section, another 75% of all filling in my questionnaire listed the magazine contents page as being easy to read and well organised. the remaining in this case simply showed their opinion of the contents and its construction to be well-composed on occasion. This is a good result again, as it suggests the majority of my audience are pleased with my chosen layout for the magazine.

Question 8: DPS Analysis This question allowed a little more freedom for the audience, as they are given the option to voice their opinion on the more intricate construction details of the Double Page Spread. Overall, I am pleased with the outcome of this section, and would very much like to edit/adjust any dislikes my audience may appreciate.

Question 9: Most Professional Looking Section At this point, I asked my audience to voice their opinion on their favourite piece, and what they found to look most professional. 15% rated my Front Cover highest; 40% expressed a preference of my Contents Page; and a further 45% believed my Double Page Spread to be the most impressive amongst the three. This is not only great with regards to what I expected (and the fairly even distribution between 2 of the three), but also when considering my own opinion on the three.

Question 10: Photography and Look This is the final section of my questionnaire, questioning the audience on their opinion of my photography and the look of the photographs within the magazine (based on genre and stylisation). 9% voted highest marks, at 10/10; 33% voted 9; 50% voted 8; and finally, a remaining 8% voted at 7. These stand as great results, creating a clear idea to me that the overall look of my magazine and the photographs within it look predominantly professional.

Question 11: Dislikes/Extra Comments This section simply (yet crucially) allows the audience to voice their honest opinion on changes they may make, should they be given the opportunity. I am happy overall with the results, and would very much like to adapt on popular opinion should I be given the chance.
