1 Magazine Primary Research.
Questionnaire Research & Data.

2 Purpose & Aim. Method & Techniques.
My purpose and aim for this project is to develop the production process of my magazine by using a questionnaire to gain primary research which I will then use in the develop my magazine which will allow me to gain a better understanding of what my target audience want from my magazine. I chose to use a questionnaire as it allowed me to process and collate the data which will then make it easier for me to understand the quantitive and qualitative data which will allow me to extract the required information and place into the development of my magazine. Opportunity sampling allowed me to cover a wide group of people resulting in my magazine being aimed at various different groups of people however by using opportunity sampling I may attract results from people that do not fit my target audience. Questionnaires are useful and easy allowing them to time and cost effective which may result in a larger group of people being asked in the same time it may take another form of primary data collection to extract the data however they often consist of close answered question which may result in you missing out on necessary data if the questions are not correct or miss out on important details.

3 Results: Audience Profile.
My results indicate that the majority of the candidates I ask were females however just over a quarter of the people I asked were males, this indicates that I will have to make my magazine suitable for both genders allowing a larger target audience to be viewed. My results also indicated that 95%of the candidates I asked were between the ages of 16-20, this links directly with the results I gathered from my Employment Status question as 61% were full time students. However my employment status question also suggested that a large amount of people work which suggest that they have a disposable income suitable to be spend on magazines. My question on hobbies shows me that the 50% of the people I asked posses a hobby based around music which directly effects the production of my magazine as I am creating a music magazine.

4 Results: Purchasing Habits
The information shown on this page indicates that the consumer buy NME magazine more than any of the other magazine suggested, I can use this information to change and develop my magazine following a similar design and format as NME. My results also indicate that 33% of my target audience by 5 or magazines a month meaning that competition will be tough this also indicates that my target audience have a quite a lot of disposable income which allows me to figure out a suitable price for my product. 63% of my target audience said that a free gift would increase the likely hood of them buying a magazine so this is a route that the magazine could take to increase sales. £7% said that they would be most likely to buy the magazine from a supermarket whereas 26% of people said they would be likely to buy it from a newsagent so these would be the places I would like to place emphasis on the magazine to ensure maximum sales occur. My price will also be determined by the results I collected for instance I will probably place the magazines cost at £2.50 as 32% said they would purchase the magazine so this would be an acceptable price as well as creating a large income for the magazine. I will probably release my magazine weekly as this was the most appealing time period for the audience this will also ensure that people will by the magazine and the amount of work put in will not be wasted.

5 Results: Magazine Design.
These results show me that half of the people that I asked preferred the first cover that we offered them, this result indicates that I should base some of my design on this cover as this appealed to the audience the most. When asked why did you select this cover 32% said they chose it because of its colouring which tell me I should use a similar colour scheme to attract the largest audience so this is a design technique I might use in my own magazine. Out of the 6 fonts I showed my target audience the most popular was font number 6 so this would be a good font to use in the creation of my magazine as it attracts and appeals to the majority of the audience. This may also indicate that it is the easiest to read so this would work well on the creation of my magazine. When asked what colour scheme people preferred 37% of my target audience chose bright pink, yellow and black whereas 32% chose red, white and black so I may mix these two colour schemes as this may increase the amount of people that will enjoy the magazines colour scheme ultimately increasing sales.

6 Research: Content. These results show what my target audience would like to be featured inside my magazine. By collecting these results I can decide what to place in my magazine to maximise the circulation and the readership. The top chart shows me that there should be an equal balance between funny and friendly language style within my articles as this will attract the largest audience increasing the readership of the magazine. When asked would a gift incline you to purchase the magazine 63% said yes, by having such a high percentage I will place a free gift in the magazine as this may increase the circulation as well as making the magazine stand out of the shelf against its competitors which will ensure the magazine is purchased by the reader. I then asked which gift would you prefer to receive 26% both stated that they would either like free tickets/gift vouchers or free cd’s, these results show me what I should place in my magazine to ensure the that my target audience by the magazine. I then asked what two features people would like in the magazine with the majority voting for interviews and upcoming gigs and festivals so these will be articles that I will place as the most important parts of my magazine as this will draw in the most readers.

7 Conclusion & Proposal. Through my primary research I have developed and changed the way in which my magazine will be viewed and changed to fit the audience I am aiming for. I have decided that my magazine will aim mainly at women however it will also be aimed at men as this allows it to have a larger target audience. I have also found out that my audience are late teens to early twenties which means my magazine must be suitable for them. A lot of my target audience are still students so this means the magazine can not be over priced as no one will be able to afford it, this has resulted at me setting the price £2.50 as this is an acceptable price that everyone will be able to afford. I have also determined that my magazine will come with a gift however it has not been decided how often, this will enhance the likely hood of the audience buying the magazine. I have also determined that my magazine will be released weekly as this was the most suitable answer for my audience. I have decided that my magazine will focus its articles on upcoming festivals and gigs as well as interviews as these were the most popular with my target audience, by getting this data I can determine how successful my magazine will be as well as determining what my audience wants from my magazine. I have decided to do my textual analysis on NME and Q magazine as I think these magazines will be similar to what I want my final designs to be like, by looking at these magazines I can collect influence and idea’s for my final designs. I also like the colour scheme and overall design which was agreed with by the people I asked. I have decided to place my magazine in supermarkets and newsagents to ensure maximum sales of the magazine.
