1 Evaluation – Question 5 How did you attract/address the audience?

2 From my first questionnaire, I found out what people would want in a new metal magazine. I found that people wanted: a colour scheme of black, white and red. The font style, Capitals, for the heading on the front page One main image on the front page A balance of both images and text Informal language The main feature to be an interview And an effective layout What the public wanted

3 When constructing my magazine, I wanted to show that I used the questionnaire results to make it look realistic and effective and to also show that I have listened to my audience. I have used the colour scheme of black, white and red on all three of the pages. For the front cover I have used one image and the font, Capitals, for the heading and coverlines. I have used an interview and I have tried to use a balance of text and images. Construction

4 From my questionnaire, I found that the public would be more likely to buy a magazine if it was priced between £2.00 and £2.50 depending on how often it is released. I decided to price my magazine at £2.00 as I thought this was a reasonable price for a magazine to be released once a month. However, if there were any gifts to be included in the magazine, it would have to have a higher price than £2.00. I have looked at existing magazine designs and I wanted to use and develop the basic layout so that my product will look like a real magazine that is professional and aesthetically pleasing. 5 A focus group is a form of qualitative research where a group of people are asked about their opinions towards a product. My focus group consisted of 6 people, three males and three females who all gave positive feedback about my product. For the next six slides, I have displayed what the people thought of my magazine. Opinions about the contents page – All the images and all the text are displayed separately and overall layout is good. Is the writing clear to read on all three pages – Yes. Opinions of the images featured on all three pages: Professionally photographed and edited. Marks out of ten: - Front cover – 9. - Contents page – 7. - Double page spread – 8. Strengths – A consistent colour scheme throughout linking the pages together. Improvements – too much red used on the contents page. Would you buy this magazine and why? - Yes as it looks like an interesting magazine. Participant One

9 Gender – Female Age – 16 Employment status – full time college Town of residence – Epping Opinions of the front cover – easy on the eye Opinions about the contents page – bold with a lot of red used Opinions about the double page spread – effective use of the layout and features in the text Opinions on the colour scheme – effective for the reader and shows continuity Is the writing clear to read on all three pages – Mostly Opinions of the images featured on all three pages: well photographed, and edited well Marks out of ten: - Front cover – 8 - Contents page – 6 - Double page spread – 8 Strengths – an effective colour scheme and a good layout throughout the pages Improvements – the editors letter could have been in white so that it stands out from the red background Would you buy this magazine and why? – yes, the images are relevant to the genre, the writing is easily readable and the front cover is easy on the eye drawing the audience in. 10 Gender – Male Age – 18 Employment status – full time college Town of residence – Harlow Opinions of the front cover – too much white and so background may need more colour, but a good layout and effective image. Opinions about the contents page – Not as bright as the front cover, features list is readable Opinions about the double page spread – A good use of images and good layout. Opinions on the colour scheme – Kept throughout and works Is the writing clear to read on all three pages – mostly, the editor’s letter on the contents page is a little dark and difficult to read Opinions of the images featured on all three pages: An effective use of images that relate to the genre of magazine Marks out of ten: - Front cover – 8 - Contents page – 7 - Double page spread – 9 Strengths – colour scheme is constant and the words are easily readable on double page spread. Improvements – The fact box could have white writing to make it more bright and eye catching Would you buy this magazine and why? – Yes as it has a good layout, and it is not too bright or to dark Participant Five

Would you buy this magazine and why? – yes, the writing is easy to read, and the images can relate to the genre of the magazine Participant Six

12 In conclusion, I feel I have listened to the public and my target audience and have produced a magazine that looks professional and realistic which attracts the audience. I feel I have also addressed the audience by using informal text for the double page spread and for the editor’s letter. I feel my magazine can attract and address my audience through many features whilst still relating to the questionnaire showing I have taken their opinion into account. Conclusion
