1. DAILY PDN’s  EVERYDAY  3 minutes (after the bell) to COMPLETE & TURN IN 90 days in a semester Get 30 PDN’s – ONE FREE HOMEWORK PASS  You could EARN 3 FREE HOMEWORKS  PDN’s MUST HAVE CORRECT ANSWER

2. Objective  The GOAL for the day  What you should know or be able to do by the end of class.  IF you don’t understand by the end of class that’s your chance to let me know. So we can review it more.

Biology 1A  Goals:  Further our science understanding.  Plan and carry out science investigations  Develop appreciation for the world around us.  What do you hope to learn in this class?  Something in science that interests you?

Classroom rules  1. Be respectful of your peers, teachers and your surroundings at all times.  2. Please always be prepared & on time for class.

Classroom Procedures  Sit in your assigned seat everyday.  The teacher dismisses class, NOT the bell. all  Return all borrowed supplies.  If you finish an assignment before the rest of the class you are expected to remain quiet out of respect for your peers.  Restroom - you need to go BEFORE class, you have 5 minutes between classes, go then.

Leaving Class  You will have 10 and ONLY 10 chances to leave this class to  Use the restroom  Go to your locker  Go to another teacher  Or any other reason besides being excused by a vice principle or teacher.  USE THEM WISELY  You DO NOT get any more  NO EXCEPTIONS

Grades  25% Chapter Tests & Homework  25% Projects & Quizzes  Late assignments will be deducted points for each day late.  Zeros will be given for the assignment once it is one week past due.  Quizzes may or may not be announced

Grades  25% Class Participation  You can earn point’s everyday for effectively participating in class activities and being prepared for class.  7 or more unexcused absences will result in a reduced participation grade.  25% Cumulative Final Exam & PDNs – ALL PDNs will be graded, 2 points each, you only get credit for having them answered.

 Deficiency Notices: Students with an average of 75 or below.  PowerSchool  Class Dojo  PARTY!!!!  Academic Honesty  Cheating & plagiarism will result in failure of the assignment or failure of the course. It is expected that all work turned in by you is completely your own.

Make-up work  If YOU are absent, YOU are still responsible for YOUR homework. For each day missed you get an additional day to turn in the work. However, if late, points will be deducted.  If you are absent the day of an exam or quiz, you will be expected to take the exam/quiz the next day you’re in class.  If the absence is for three consecutive days or more, parents are to contact the grade level office and assignments will be collected for parental pick-up.

Extra Help  If you need extra help on a topic please see me to schedule time for more review of the information.  I’m here to HELP you, NOT to give you answers.  Tutoring after school on Monday’s and Wednesday’s until 4

Tardiness  “Any student who is late to any class, including first period, will be seen by the grade level administrator and issued a warning for the first (1st) offense. Any subsequent tardiness will result in after-school detentions, which run from 2:45-3:30 pm. These afterschool detentions will be issued for the 2nd, 3rd and 4 th tardy of the marking period/quarter. If a student accumulates 5 tardies in any one quarter, that student will be suspended, and each subsequent tardy will result in a suspension.”

HASD CELL PHONE / ELECTRONIC DEVICE PROCEDURES (BASED UPON BOARD POLICY 237 – ELECTRONIC DEVICES)  1 st Incident - Warning (return to student at the end of the school day  2 nd Incident - Confiscate and parents MUST pick phone up from the building Administrator  3 rd Incident - Confiscate for one day and parents MUST pick phone up  4 th Incident - Confiscate for one week and parents MUST pick phone up  5 th Incident - Confiscate for one month and parents MUST pick phone up  6 th Incident - Confiscate for the remainder of the school year and parents MUST pick phone up last day of school.

Disciplinary Steps  Verbal warning  BEHAVIOR WARNING TICKET to assist student in thinking about and deciding on appropriate behaviors in the classroom.  After 3 tickets PARENT CONTACT-telephone call or home to parent to discuss behavior choices by student and to further discuss classroom procedures.  After 4 tickets take matters to the principal: this may involve the student receiving a detention or suspension.  *Note: consequences can immediately be moved to a higher level, depending on the seriousness of the matter.

Questions

Textbooks! Textbooks are loaned to students for their use during the school year and are to be kept clean and handled carefully. When books are distributed, the classroom teacher notes the condition of the book and the students sign agreeing to that condition. Any questions regarding the condition of the book must be resolved at that time. Students will be responsible to pay for books not personally returned on the last day of school in the condition in which it was issued. Students who damage books will be charged $10.00; students who lose their book or damage it beyond usage will be charged $20.00
