2 Mrs. Quigley Technology Plagiarism Cheating I Absentee Policy
ENGLISH I Absentee Policy Late / Incomplete Work * YES, WE DID SOMETHING IMPORTANT WHILE YOU WERE ABSENT. It is the student’s responsibility to check the class “While You Were Out” folders to get any assignments they missed. * A student has one day for every day they were absent to turn in any work. If a quiz was administered on a day a student was absent, the quiz must be made up on the first day the student returns. If previously assigned work was due on the day of the absence, the work is due on the first day the student returns. My expectation is that ALL assignments be completed to a level of proficiency (70% or higher) and turned in on time. If work is turned in late, 10 points will be deducted each day. Late work will not be accepted past five days of the due date. If missing or late work becomes an issue, calls home to discuss this will be made. * Printer and Internet issues are not an excuse for late work. Technology -We will use technology often in this classroom to better prepare students for the real world. Students are expected to use the technology provided in accordance with the school’s usage policy. Failure to do so will result in a loss of technology privileges. If an alternative assignment cannot be given, the student will take a “0” for the technology assignment. -Phones and other electronic devices are to stay put away unless otherwise stated by a teacher. At times, individual permission can be given to use electronic devices, do not assume that since one student is using their device, that you can. If I see it out without permission, your phone will be sent to the office. Plagiarism Cheating Plagiarism is the taking of ideas or writings of another and passing them off as one’s own. In this class, plagiarism includes... 1. turning in another’s work as one’s own 2. including a source but failing to cite it 3. copying an author’s exact words and passing them off as one’s own 4. finding an idea from another source and passing it off as one’s own 5. copying work from a friend before class (or while in another class) Students caught plagiarizing will be given a ZERO for the assignment. * The teacher will notify the administration and contact parents if cheating / plagiarism is suspected. * The student will be given a zero for that particular test or assignment. * The student will receive a minimum of three hours of ASD. I, ________________________________________, have read and understand the rules and expectations for English I. I acknowledge that it is my responsibility to contact my teacher if I have any questions or concerns. I know that this syllabus, assignments, calendars, and resources will be available to me on Mrs. Quigley’s webpage once the school year gets underway. I know that assignments can be submitted digitally at any time and that printer/computer/flash drive issues are not an excuse for late work. I understand that there will be a quiz over the information on this syllabus to ensure I read and understand the rules and expectations.
