Classroom Rules ***We will do this a little later.

Morning Procedures

Get to School on Time! At 8 a.m. you will be greeted at the door of the classroom by one of your teachers. You will make eye contact and say, “good morning.” If it is after 8 a.m., YOU are late!

Upon Entering the Classroom…. 1. Un-stack your chair 2. Unpack your backpack and place it in the closet (this will be the ONLY time you may go into your backpack) 3. Place your blue and yellow folders in two separate piles on your desk 4. Table monitors ONLY will bring them to the back baskets 5. Place any notes from home in our desk basket 5. DO NOT talk to your teachers 5. DO start your Do Now

After 8:00 a.m. Talking is OFF! If you have a pressing issue to address with one of your teachers, write it on a post-it and post on the edge of your desk. Work on Do Now LATE? If you arrive late, unpack quickly and silently Bring your blue and yellow folders to the back baskets and begin the Do Now

Daily Procedures

Agenda Notebook Bring agenda notebook to class EVERYDAY Record homework Record word study words MONDAY: goal statement FRIDAY: assess your goal

Agenda Notebook Homework Word Study Words Class announcements Schedule reminders Blog address (and password) Website address Classmates phone numbers What goes in it??

Classroom Signals ***You will use these hand signals so the teacher doesn’t have to stop teaching. There is NEVER a reason to be out of your seat without using a signal - “ W ” for water - “ R ” for restroom - “ T ” for tissue

Classroom Signals - I agree or I was thinking the same thing! - You need to state that again in a complete sentence. ROLLING ARMS – You can do it! Keep going!

Classroom Signals MOST IMPORTANT CLASSROOM SIGNAL: When you see a fist raised, you immediately raise your fist in response. This is a call to SILENCE! When you are doing group work, a bell will ring to signal the silence response.

Questions and Answers Raise your hand quietly We will only call on QUIET hands When someone is called on, put your hand down and actively listen to what is said

Questions and Answers What does active listening LOOK like? Hmmmmmmmmmm… You are tracking the speaker Turn your body and put your eyes on the person speaking Your bottom is on your chair Your feet are on the floor Your hands are still Your pencil is down Your body is still Let’s practice!

Restroom Procedures Use in the morning before 8:00AM and at lunch Use hand signals to ask during class (DO NOT ask during lessons) Sign out with name and time Turn the sign to OCCUPIED Walk quietly to the restroom Wash your hands with soap Leave the restroom clean Sign back in with time Turn sign to VACANT

CLASS JOBS Class jobs are assigned at the beginning of each month Choice is determined by the teachers; we may use a math problem or award based on class behavior Jobs must be taken seriously and completed in a timely manner

Pencils Pencil Sharpener will sharpen pencils in the morning ONLY before 8:00am It is your responsibility to bring two sharpened pencils to class EACH DAY If your pencil breaks: Hold up your pencil to signal a teacher Quietly walk to back of room Put your pencil in UNSHARPENED bucket Take pencil from SHARPENED bucket

Paper Writing paper is in back in the writing station (draft, publishing, etc.) You may get paper as you need it. If it is during class you need to ask permission On EVERY assignment, your heading should have: ** Name **Date

Desk Sharing You will be sharing desk space with other students Do not leave personal items on desk The only items on your desk should be your pencil holder and your desk box (the desk box contains table supplies) Your desk top should always be clear, unless you are instructed by us to leave work out for review Keep the inside of your desk neat and organized “Mi casa es su casa” ~ “My house is your house.”

Desk Work You will often be asked to work with your desk mates You have a number assigned to you on your desk (1,2,3 or 4) We will use these numbers during lessons so that finding a partner is easy We will also use these numbers for particular group activities

Stability Balls Some of the chairs in our room have been replaced by stability balls Some may be assigned to particular students permanently as the year progresses Others will rotate, giving everyone a chance to use them We will let you know the schedule so you do not have to ask

Goal Statement Written in agenda notebook every Friday Goal statement should begin with one of the following statements: This week I tried … This week I improved… I want to work more on… This will help your teachers and parents understand the goals you are working on in school.

It’s YOUR responsibility to check on the website or with another student if you are absent Homework is posted on the website nightly and much of it can be completed whether you were in class or not If there are handouts, they will be kept in a folder near the folder baskets for you to get upon your return If you are too sick to complete your work, you have ONE day for each day you were absent to make up the work
