Classroom Procedures and Expectations

You are expected to enter the classroom quietly. Greet your teacher by saying “Good Morning.” Go to your seat. Take out supplies, homework, and anything else you will need for the day. Walk to put your backpack away in your locker. Do not return to the locker unless you have permission. Get a sharpened pencil. Return to your seat. Begin Morning work.

Pencils will be sharpened at the end of the day by a helper or myself. Sharpened pencils are placed in the cup labeled, “Sharpened”. Dull pencils are placed in the cup labeled, “Unsharpened”. Students will not sharpen pencils during instruction. Personal pencil sharpeners are not allowed because of the pencil marks and trash they leave behind.

Students are expected to begin morning work as soon as they put away backpacks. Morning work will be written on the board and may include daily edit, writing, reading comprehension, math skills, and geography. This is not busy work but work that reinforce skills studied in class. Morning work will be assessed.

Students are to remain in seats unless they have permission to leave seats. Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat. Students are to sit on their bottoms. Feet are to remain under the desks.

Students will remain seated unless directed otherwise by the teacher. We will have to move around at times in order to be actively engaged in the lesson. Movement that involves learning is permitted. Running and rough playing is not permitted in the classroom.

Students are expected to label papers with first and last name, student number, and assignment type in the upper right hand corner. Monica Cosby #1 Spelling

Completed work is to be placed in the subject area trays: Math, Language, Social Studies, Science, and Writing. Students will walk to turn in their work and immediately begin another task. 10 points will be deducted from papers with no name. If you do not turn in a paper, you will be given a pink slip.

Please respect my property. If you would like to use something on my desk, be courteous and ask before you touch anything.

When someone enters our classroom, they are considered a guest. You are to get quiet, continue working, and stay focused on your tasks. It’s impolite to listen to adult conversation that doesn’t involve you.

“Put- Ups” are allowed. “Put-Down”s are not. Our speech should make others feel good. Illegal Words such as stupid, shut- up, What the? Moron, gay, etc. are not acceptable. Call classmates by the names they parents gave them.

Everyone participates, no one dominates. Raise your hand and wait for permission to speak. Respect what others say. Stick to the topic. Say, “I like when ________said”, “ I agree with _____________”, “I disagree because _____”. These statements show that you’re a listener.

Wait until you receive directions to get in line. Many times we will line up by a certain criteria such as “even birthdays”, “those whose dominant color is blue”, “those with a younger sibling”, etc. When you get in line, you must join the line quietly. Face the front with mouths closed. A talking line does not move ahead.

We will walk quietly in the hall at all times. We will not disturb other classrooms when in the hall. Stop at stopping points and wait for further direction from the teacher.

Money should be given to me in the morning. Get everything you need when you are in the serving line. You may not get up once you’ve sat down. Use your manners. Say Please and Thank You. The first 10 minutes is silent lunch. Use utensils to eat. Do not share food. Use conversational speech. Clean your area when you are finished. Wait before you throw away your trash. Get in a quiet line at the signal of the teacher.

Be Safe- no running or playing in the restroom. Be Responsible- Rush, Flush, and Hush! Be Respectful- No peeking in another student’s stall. Only enter the restroom if you have to use it. This is not a meeting place. A hall pass is required. Do not take the hall pass in the stall with you. Leave it by the door. Failure to observe restroom guidelines may result in having the teacher accompany you.

Walk in line to PE. All classroom expectations apply to PE also. What happens in PE stays in PE. Report incidents to PE teachers. Remember: “It’s just a game….Life goes on” Get water after PE, Don’t wait until you return to the classroom to ask to use the restroom.

Walk in a quiet line to class. Greet the teacher. All classroom and school rules apply. Do your best. Represent our class well.

Walk to the lab. Go to your assigned computer. Wait for directions. No talking unless otherwise instructed to do so. Return headphones on top of the monitor. Push in your chair. Say Thank You.

Use your time wisely during our weekly time. Check out books within your reading range. No talking. All classroom expectations apply. Respect Mrs. Owen. Say Thank You. Don’t waste time. Misuse of time may result in you losing this privilege.

Write down homework. Pack your backpack. Clean your desk and the area around your desk. Get in a quiet line. Walk to buses with teacher’s guidance. Greet your bus driver. Walk on the bus. Do not get off the bus to go back to the classroom.
