Presentation transcript:

 Rolling: Admission decisions are made approximately 4 weeks after your application is complete. State schools are rolling admissions.  Early Action (EA): You apply early and find out your decision early. You can apply to many schools “EA”  Early Decision (ED) : This is a binding agreement. You may only apply to 1 school Early Decision, so this must be your 1 st choice. If admitted ED, you MUST attend!

 Fill out your college applications using either the Common App or by going to their admissions page and clicking “Apply now”  Request your transcripts from Guidance  Send your SATs/ACTs  Request letters of recommendation from 1-2 teachers

 To register with Common App: (See the step by step process for details) To register with Common App:  The Common Application is used at more than 450 colleges and universities.  The Common App requires 2 teacher recommendations and a counselor recommendation

 Download, print and complete a Transcript Request Form from the CB West Guidance website  Bring the completed Transcript Request Form for each college, along with $1.00 for each form, to Ms. Matthews in the Guidance Office.  Please write the college’s accurate deadline on the form. This information can be easily obtained by going to the college lookup link on Naviance. Application deadlines are on the first page.

 If the college requires a counselor recommendation, check the box on the Transcript Request Form.  Complete the “Class of 2016 Counselor Recommendation Form” in Naviance under the “About Me” tab.  Ask teachers - in person - about their specific recommendation process and follow up with an to them including your college list and deadlines.

 The guidance office will send your colleges: 1. Your transcript (which includes SAT/ACT scores) 2. A recommendation if requested 3. Secondary School Report form (we have these forms online, you don’t need to bring a paper copy) 3. A copy of your senior schedule, which means that it cannot change from this point on

 Please allow 15 SCHOOL days (3 weeks) for transcripts and recommendations to go out.  Some schools have hard deadlines….you must find out when your application materials are due!  It is to your benefit to get your applications in early. Halloween is a great benchmark in the college application process.

 Completely fill out a Transcript Request Form.  Deadlines: On your transcript requests, you can write in “Rolling” admissions for state schools and schools without deadlines. Do not check EA or ED unless appropriate. Lookup and write in correct deadlines.  If you are applying using the Common App, you must match your Common App account with your Naviance account. (For instructions see the Step-by-Step process.)

 Sign up for visits with college representatives on Naviance.  Print out your confirmation page as your pass to the visit.  Visits begin the week of 9/14  New colleges are added daily, check Naviance to see if your schools will be here.  This is the last chance for you to meet the person who will read your application.

 This fall is the last time you will take these tests  All SAT and ACT scores are on the transcript that we will send, including SAT Subject Tests. However, scores on your transcript are not considered official. AP Test scores are not on the transcript.  Your school may request that your scores be sent officially from Collegeboard.org or ACTstudent.org  Collegeboard.org lets you send your scores to 4 schools for free when you register for the SAT
