5. College Application Process
If you are applying to a 2 0r 4 year school you will be a completing the applications through one of the following:
The Colleges admissions website
The Common application (Recommended)
The Coalition (relatively new – 140 colleges participate)

6. Types of Admissions
Early Decision (ED) – Students apply early in the fall of senior year and notification of acceptance or denial is usually sent by mid-December. If accepted, a student is required to sign a commitment-to-attend document, as well as withdraw all other applications.
Early Action/Early Notification – Similar to ED, except that the applicant is not committed to attend the college if accepted.
Notification Deadlines:
Rolling Admissions – Admission decisions are made on a continuous basis and notification of acceptance is sent three-five weeks after receipt of completed application materials.
Regular Admissions – Colleges have a specific deadline dates and colleges will notify a student by a certain date.
Wait List – A response to the applicant indicating that their application was acceptable but the limit of accepted students has been reached; wait listed students may be admitted after May 1st, if space becomes available.

7. Naviance
A web-based planning and advising system for schools, with resources for counselors, teachers, administrators, students and parents
All your transcripts and letters of recommendations are submitted through Naviance for 4 year, 2 year or technical schools.

8. Create Common Application
Complete “Education Section”
Add colleges to “My colleges” List
Complete FERPA Waiver
** This must be done before you can request transcripts or teacher recommendations on Naviance**

16. Request Letters of Recommendations
Please allow teachers and your counselor a few weeks to write your recommendation
Complete The Request for Teacher Recommendation Form when asking teachers (available in the guidance office and on the guidance website).
Submit an Activity Resume with the recommendation form (examples on the guidance website)
Make wise choices, a teacher who knows you well. Doesn’t need to be a class you received an “A” in.
Can also ask for a coach, advisor, or employer for one of the recommendations
We would recommend that you ask the same teachers for each school so that it doesn’t become confusing to you to remember which school is getting which recommendation.

Provide teachers with addressed, stamped envelope for each school, along with any teacher supplemental forms.

A request needs to be completed for each college
Hand to your school counselor in person
Transcript request forms are available in the guidance office and online
Allow at least two weeks for processing transcripts and recommendations.

22. Submit SAT/ACT Scores
Request SAT scores be sent directly from college board and ACT scores from
Official score reports are required by most colleges (Score reports are $12.00)
If you are registered for the October or November 2018 SAT test, you can send for 4 free reports to you colleges at time of registration.
Don’t hold off applying until you receive your scores. You will indicate that you are taking either SAT/ACT on your application.
As part of the college admission’s process, standardized test scores are required by most if not all schools, however some schools are becoming test optional. You will know by looking at the school’s website and or application.

23. Subject Tests
May be required by many highly competitive colleges, make sure to check the admission requirements of each of the colleges you are interested in applying to.
Subject tests can be taken when the SAT is given, except for March.
Each subject test is an hour in length and a total of 3 can be taken during one test date

24. Reminders
Colleges must be added on Naviance and the FERPA waiver and Common App Matching must be done before transcripts and recommendations can be submitted
Transcripts will not be sent without a transcript request form
NCAA – you must register with the Eligibility Center on the NCAA website and request a transcript through the website. SAT scores must be requested through college board.
Let your counselor know if a college needs your marking period grades.
Request mid-year grades in January

25. DUAL ENROLLMENT
Earn college credit from Warren County Community College by being enrolled in eligible classes
Complete Warren County Community College transcript request at the end of the year
Complete list of approved courses is available in the Course of Study on the Guidance Website.
