Is my child safe when they are doing all of these activities?  All the activities are led and supervised by qualified staff. All health and safety requirements set by the Education Department are followed. This includes gaining permission from the Education Department to take children on an overnight stay, all risk assessments completed and shared with staff, correct staffing ratios both for activities and for overnight stays.  Miss McClemens, Miss Briggs & Miss Pryke have viewed the hostel rooms and they are completely secure & no other members of the public will be on site at the same time as St. Martin’s children.

What happens if my child is sick or homesick during the overnight stay?  If there are any illness problems during the overnight stay, Miss McClemens will contact you. If you child does get homesick, we do try to encourage them to be brave and their friends will support them to try to take their minds off feeling homesick before phoning parents. Overnight stays at friends houses are good ways of becoming accustomed to nights away from home. 

What will the accommodation at Durrell be like?  The children sleep within the main hostel, in small dorms, which accommodate approx 4- 6 children) These are over two levels, within the same building  The teachers will sleep in a room next to children’s rooms on both levels and also in the living room area on the ground floor within the main hostel, which is next to the entrance, which will be locked from inside and therefore have no outside access.
