1 Year 4 Trip to Juniper Hall Friday 24 th April 2015

2 Facilities  Most activities and learning will take place outside but there are classrooms available in case of wet weather.  Children will make their own packed lunch on Saturday morning (dietary requirements form should have been returned to office).  Breakfast is provided on Saturday morning.  Same gender rooms are provided and range from accommodating 4 – 6 children. Your children have chosen two friends they would like to share with and we will try and make sure they are with at least one of these choices.  Doors are locked with key pad locks on the main door and doors to each landing. The premises are extremely secure.

3 Things to know: Drop off At school as usual on Friday morning ready for the bell at 8.45am with a packed lunch and overnight bags. Any last minute information about children should be shared with the class teacher that morning. Children to come to school in the clothes they will be wearing for the afternoon’s activities (non-uniform). Pick up We will be collected from Juniper Hall at 1.00 – 1.15pm and expect to back at Salfords at 1.30 – 1.45pm for children to be collected from Lilliput’s carpark (the coach cannot park outside Salfords School) In an emergency, contact can be made with Mr Parker through Juniper Hall on either: 0845 3454071 01743 852100 Or on the school’s mobile phone number: 07719461099

4 Things to remember: Do bring: Change of clothes for Saturday and change of clothes for Friday if children get muddy. Wet weather clothing/warm clothing (waterproof coat and trousers if they have them). A coat for the evening campfire. Appropriate footwear for the weather/walking. Sunscreen. Cap/sun hat. Water bottle. Reading book. Towel. Flannel and soap. Toothbrush and toothpaste. Pyjamas. Pack of cards, top trumps or travel game.

5 Things to remember: Don’t bring: Mobile phones or electronic devices. Valuables or items that children would be upset if they were lost or damaged. Sweets or fizzy drinks. Money. Any medication should be clearly labelled with name and dosage/instructions and handed to Mrs Shaw.

6 Activities 1230 Arrive, packed lunch and settle into rooms. 1300 Tour of centre and setting of personal objectives. In the classroom, pupils will think about what is necessary to survive. Having formed a list of features that make a good shelter, set off for the woods to build shelters to survive a night on Box Hill. Test with “rain” simulation. 1630 Tea Break Set small mammal traps with an introduction into what may be caught and the survival adaptations of them, making predictions of what we will find tomorrow. 1800 Dinner 1900 Campfire Pupils will gather around the campfire to tell stories, jokes and sing songs. Marshmallows can be requested prior to your visit. Day 2 From 0730 Make packed lunches 0800 Breakfast 0915 Open Mammal Traps to see if predictions were correct. Introduction to pond dipping before heading to the ponds. Pupils will be shown how to use the nets to find freshwater invertebrates and will identify these using a dichotomous key. Pupils will also identify how these invertebrates are adapted to survive. If time, pupils will produce a scientific drawing of one of the freshwater invertebrates they have found.
