Classroom Policies and Procedures Mrs. Brunner Room 145

A policy is WHAT we do. It is the behavior expectation. A procedure is HOW we do it. It explains specifically how the expectation is properly met.

It will be the POLICY in this room that we enter and exit properly. Some of the PROCEDURES for this include: We will dispose of gum, food and drinks before entering. (Water in clear bottle with twist cap will be allowed.) We will take care of personal needs, such as RR, before entering, We will enter in an orderly manner without horseplay or loud voices. We will be prepared by bringing all necessary supplies, and any homework that is due. We will silence our cell phones and store in designated pocket of holder when we enter class. We will take our text book from shelf, go to assigned seat, and immediately begin working on bell work.

PROCEDURES for a neat, clean environment: It will be the POLICY of this room that we maintain an environment that is neat, orderly, and as free of distractions as possible. PROCEDURES for a neat, clean environment: No eating of any food or snacks in class. Even gum! Do not drop and leave paper, broken pencils, or any other trash on floor or desk. Use trash can, but only at appropriate times. If you see debris left by others, pick it up! Someone will likely do the same for you at some point. No drinks other than water in a clear bottle. Keep the cap securely tightened when not in use. Dispose of empty water bottle properly.

In order to meet the part of our POLICY calling for a distraction-free environment, we will follow these PROCEDURES: All cell phones will be silent and stored, throughout class, in the holder on the classroom wall. Any other electronic devices will be turned off and stored during class. This includes earbuds. We will remain in our seats unless otherwise instructed. We will listen politely when others are speaking. We will not use insulting or negative language. We will monitor our tone and volume at all times. We will refrain from talking at inappropriate times. We will not interrupt instruction time to ask personal questions. We will not interrupt class for restroom breaks. We will refrain from sleeping in class.

PROCEDURES to follow for this will be: It will be the POLICY in this room to be attentive to important information shared with us. PROCEDURES to follow for this will be: Whenever someone is making announcements over the intercom, everyone will immediately become quiet and listen attentively, no matter what we may be doing in class at the time. When the teacher needs to get the attention of students during active and noisier times in class, this will be signaled by raising one hand high. Upon seeing this sign, each student will stop talking immediately and also raise one hand high. This will help signal to other students that quiet attention is needed.

Some PROCEDURES for following the policy: It will be a POLICY in this room that we maintain a culture of understanding and respect. Some PROCEDURES for following the policy: We will raise our hand when we wish to speak, and wait patiently in order to give others a chance. We will listen politely to what others have to say, and we will respond in a respectful manner. (Use Accountable Talk) We will refrain from negative comments, name-calling, or any behavior that may be hurtful to others. We will not bother the belongings of others, including the teacher. Students will not enter area behind teacher desk, and will not touch anything on desk, podium or other teacher belongings. Students will not write in text books, on desks, walls, or any other property not belonging to them personally. Not yours – Don’t touch! We will use our class time wisely and not waste it.

Now, let’s all work to keep a positive attitude everyday, and have a great semester!
