Math Star Students Literacy Birthdays 10/10-10/13 Calendar This week in Jolly Phonics we will learn the letter sounds for y, x, ch, sh. Please continue to practice them at home daily. Our book of the week is “In the Mirror” and our sight word is “see”. The students will spend time looking at the uniqueness and what makes them special. We will continue to practice proper letter formation in our “Handwriting Without Tears” book. In Reading Workshop, we will be starting our next unit which is Fiction. The students will be looking at book traits that distinguish fiction books. They will learn about retelling familiar tales with a beginning, middle, and an end. They will also learn how to identify the problem and solution within a fiction story. In Writing Workshop, students will continue to listen to mentor texts that provide them with ideas about being a writer. They will be getting their own writing folder that they will use to keep all of the writing that they do during our workshop time. Math This week the students will begin Module 3. We will begin by making groups that are more than or fewer than 10. These terms “more than” and “fewer than” are used frequently in our book series. They will also be identifying groups that are more than or fewer than. For example, they will count 2 different quantities, write the numbers, and identify the amount that is greater or fewer. Children at this age understand more and less, so we will be getting them more comfortable with the academic vocabulary we use in Math.
