Literacy Our book of the week is “Monkeys” and the sight words are “he & she”. Moving forward, we will continue to have two new sight words each week. Please have your child practice reading and writing them at home as well. In Reading Workshop, we will continue our Nonfiction Unit of Study. Students will help fill out a K-W-L chart for the text, Soccer. K for what they know about soccer, W for what they want to learn, and L for new learning. Students will practice thinking about what they are reading, and how as they read Nonfiction text, they should be thinking about information that they already know about the topic and information that is new. Students will continue to practice the reading strategy: “Flippy the Dolphin”. This reminds students that when they come to a word they don’t know they can “flip” the vowel sound to a long sound to help them. In Writing Workshop, students will learn that How-To books are often procedural and require steps in order. One way that authors do this is with transition words, such as first, next, then and last. We will do a class shared writing about How to Blow Bubbles. Then students will have the opportunity to write their own How-To piece about something they know how to do well.
