1. Math Star Students Literacy Birthdays 10/8-10/12 Calendar
This week in Jolly Phonics we will learn the letter sounds for y, x, ch, sh. Please continue to practice them daily at home. Our book of the week is “In the Mirror” and our sight words are “see & an”. This week students will spend time looking at their uniqueness and what makes them special.
We will continue to practice proper letter formation in our “Handwriting Without Tears” book. The children have finished all of the capital letters and will begin the lower case letters.
In Reading Workshop, students will continue to practice using their Eagle Eye and Lips the Fish reading strategies and build stamina during Read to Self. We will also begin small group reading instruction. During this time students will be rotating through independent reading, word/letter work, and listening to reading while I work with small groups on skills that match their reading level.
In Writing Workshop, students will continue to listen to mentor texts that provide them with ideas about being a writer and illustrator. They will be getting and decorating their own writing folder. They will use this folder to keep all of the writing in for use during our workshop time. .

This week the students will be using concrete materials and pictures to compare numbers up to 10. They will create a group of objects to show more than or fewer than a given number. They will also be working on identifying groups that are more than or fewer than 10.
