1 Star Students Math 11/27-12/1 Literacy Calendar Birthdays Sofia – 26th
We completed our Jolly Phonics study of letter sounds, but we will still practice them at school. Please continue to practice them at home daily. Our book of the week is “The Gift” and our sight word is “it”. We will continue to practice proper letter formation in our “Handwriting Without Tears” book. At home, please encourage your child to write their name with only the first letter capitalized. We will be working on this at school. In Reading Workshop, we will continue our Fiction Unit and reviewing story elements. We will also be adding a new reading strategy to their list of things they can do when they come to a word they don’t know while reading. Students have learned Eagle Eye, Lips the Fish, Stretchy Snake, and this week: Chunky Monkey. With this strategy students break the word into chunks, or smaller parts that they know. For example, the word “stand”. They know the word “and”, so they only to blend s and t. In Writing Workshop, students will continue to work on writing simple books about things that they know and care about. Calendar 12/23-1/7 – Winter Break 1/15 – MLK Jr. Day/ No School 1/17 – IF PTO – 7:00-8:30 1/19 – Institute Day/ No School Birthdays Sofia – 26th Math This week students will continue to work in Module 5. The will continue to build understanding of balanced equations. Students will identify to parts that balance that a whole and develop the language of equality. We will use phrases such as “is the same value as, balances, is equal to, and equals.” Students will also be introduced to the symbol “=“. When talking with your children you can use this math language to build their math vocabulary.
