Literacy
This week we will continue daily practice of our sight words. Please continue to support this at home. Our book of the week is “The Penny Tree” and our new sight word is: “some”. We will continue studying the human body, and we will learn about plants. The students will be planting sunflower seeds this week and keeping a journal about their growth over the next few weeks. Then they will bring them home to continue taking care of them over the summer.
In Reading Workshop we continue in our Poetry Journals. We will read poems about planting and flowers.
In Writing Workshop students will continue learning about Personal Narratives. Students will pick their topic and begin writing. We will refer to our mentor texts that are a model and borrow from their style of writing. This will be a culmination of all they have learned in writing workshop.

Math
This week we will continue work in Module 12. The students will take a closer look at “one more” and “one less” than a number. We will use number lines and number racks.
Students will also continue to work with addition and subtraction. They will play many of the games they have learned throughout the year to help reinforce their number sense. Children learn through play, and the best way to sharpen these math skills is through playing games. It’s also fun! The students will also use materials to help them solve problems, such as cubes, math racks and number lines.
