1. Math Star Students 4/23-4/27 Literacy Calendar Birthdays
Our book for the week is “Play Ball” and the sight word is “saw”. Please have your child practice reading and writing their sight words at home. We will continue our study of the human body and how it works. Last week the students began work on their skeletons, and they will reveal them to you at Open House!
In Reading Workshop, we will continue in our Poetry Unit. Students will also continue to work on choosing just right books for their book bins. We will also talk about playing sports and being a part of a team.
In Writing Workshop, students will continue to learn about Functional Writing. This week students will read “The Jolly Postman” and see how an author can use functional writing to tell a story. They will learn about another type of functional writing: postcards. We will discuss why/when you would write a postcard, and they will have the opportunity to write their own.

Math
This week we will begin Module 12. Students will work with coins and sort them. They will learn the names penny, nickel, dime and quarter and match the coins to their names. They will also practice showing a group of coins to match verbal or written descriptions.
