1. Star Students 2/19-2/23 Literacy Calendar 2/21 – IF PTO 7:00-8:30
Our book of the week is “Dan the Flying Man” and the sight words are “can & this”. Please have your child practice reading and writing their sight words at home.
We will begin our journey through the Solar System. Students will “ take off” each day in our rocket ship and learn about each planet.
In Reading Workshop, we will continue our Nonfiction Unit of Study. Students will learn how to retell a nonfiction book. We will use the books we have about planets to help us practice retelling.
In Writing Workshop, students will write about flying, space and the planets. They will continue to self-check their work for 5 star writing. They will also have a partner help them through self-checking. The students have been doing a great job with 5 star writing. The high expectation has really helped the quality of their writing. They know exactly what they need to do to be successful and proud.

Math
Students will begin Module 9. This week they will practice making groups and writing numbers that are one more or one fewer than numbers to 20. It’s important that students understand “one fewer” is the same as “one less”, as well as “one greater” is the same as “one more”. This can also be difficult for those students who have not yet mastered teen numbers. Using a number track can be helpful to students that need that additional support.
