1. Star Students 2/5-2/9 Calendar 2/14 – Valentine Party
Literacy
Our book of the week is “Chinese Kites” and the sight words are “we & or”. We will be talking about the Chinese New Year this week as well as having some Valentine’s Day fun! Moving forward, we will continue to have two new sight words each week. Please have your child practice reading and writing them at home as well.
In Reading Workshop, we will continue our Nonfiction Unit of Study. Students will learn that a biography is a book about a real person that gives us facts and information about them.
In Writing Workshop, students will write about their favorite season. Last week we talked about how the four seasons pass in a pattern. We also talked about things that we can do in each season. Students will choose their favorite season and write about it. Their goal will be to write at least three sentences about their season and then check to see if they have used 5 star writing: capital letters to start the sentences, spaces between words, lower case letters for the rest of the letters, sight words spelled correctly, and periods at the end.

Math
Students will finish Module 8 on subtraction. They will practice acting out subtraction stories and writing equations to match. They will also work on developing fact fluency for subtraction within 5. The goal is to have these facts within 5 mastered by the end of Kindergarten.
