1 Birthdays Math Star Students Literacy 9/11-9/15 Calendar
We will continue our Jolly Phonics this week with the letters r,m,d,g,o. Please continue to practice them daily at home. Our book of the week is Colors 1,2,3 and our first Kindergarten sight words are “I” and all of the color words. The children will continue to work on beginning sounds and putting the sounds we have learned together to make CVC words like “pin or sit”. We will also begin using our book bins. I will select books to put in their bins to read during independent reading time. As the year goes on students will learn to do this by themselves! In Reading Workshop, we will begin the first unit of study which is “Launching”. In this unit students will begin to develop an understanding of themselves as readers and how to participate in collective discussions about texts. More information will be coming home in a parent letter next week. In Writing Workshop, students will continue to learn how to use the resources in the writing center and how to make it an extension of what we are learning. Math This week the children will be making groups of objects to match a given numbers 1-5. Students will practice using the one-to-one principal in counting. Students will continue becoming familiar and independent during our Math workshop time. At home you can enhance your child’s math thinking by playing games that require dice or jumping spaces. You can also use a deck of cards to play “Top-It” or “War” with your child. Take turns flipping over cards and who ever has the biggest number keeps the cards. These simple fun games really help build your child’s math reasoning skills. Star Students 9/11 Anna 9/12 Ishan 9/13 Nela 9/14 Jackson 9/15 Jonathan *Star student gets to bring in a show and tell.
